"Trick or treat choose your need."
•••••••••••••••••••The ride to the restaurant is awkward and quiet. The tension in the air is thick and I'm avoiding any type communication between us but I know it's inevitable. Crouching in my seat I go through old pictures on my phone and organise a few which weren't in the correct albums.
A picture of Isabelle with both her front teeth missing is my wallpaper. She was laughing at a joke she had told me which she learnt from school. The joke wasn't funny but I pretended to laugh and snuck a picture of her to tease her about her missing teeth."Did you go through the paperwork I gave you?"
"Yes." I reply putting my phone away.
"And you got my emails?"
"Yep all of them."
"Good."
We arrive at the restaurant. It's in the evening and we're at one of New York's expensive restaurants. I get out the car and I'm met by the cold breeze.
We make our way inside the restaurant and there in the VIP section are two men.
"Good evening gentlemen." Harris greets the two men and they stand to shake his hand.
"Nice to meet you sir." Mr Richard greets him. I did my research plus I actually did go through his paperwork this time.
The second guy is a familiar face and I know he senses it too as his eyes shine with familiarity.
"And so we meet again." He says shaking my hand.
"Oh.. You know each other?" Mr Richard asks with a smile on his face and Harris looks at me with the opposite.
"Yes we bumped into each other once last year at an event." I say giving him a forced smile.
"Jacob never told me about you."
"No dad we hardly knew each other and haven't seen each other since." He says to his dad.
Harris is not sure how to feel about this. He doesn't like feeling unprepared or not knowing things but he keeps quiet forces a smile and sits down.
"Shall we get straight to business?" Mr Richard says as soon as the waiter arrives with our drinks.
They talk about tenders and shares which Harris is interested in buying from Mr Richard. The meeting isn't as bad as I expected and not as serious as I thought it would be. Mr Richard is a very funny man with a sense of humour and his son is quite the opposite. Jacob seems more down to earth, less talkative and a very business minded man, questioning everything Harris brings to the table.
The meeting ends on a good note with Mr Richard signing the contract and agreeing to sell the shares. Jacob on the other hand seemed a bit more reluctant and unsure if it were a good idea but his father had already made up his mind.
"It was a pleasure meeting you sir." I say standing up and shaking Mr Richard's hand.
"The pleasure is all mine Miss." He says with a warm smile on his face.
I shake Jacob's hand too and nod my hand with a small smile on my face.
"You guys should come over for dinner sometime I'm sure Brenda would love to meet you. She was close friends with you mother." Mr Richard says to me with a smile on his face.
