CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
THE THIRD TASK

§ § §

"It's a maze." I said, repeating the words Fleur had just told me as I walked back to the dorms. I guess the fear I felt was etched on my face because Draco worriedly came up to me the second I walked in.

"What, love? What is it?" He asked. I would've loved to stop and gush over the name he used, but I was too stressed to.

"The third task... is a maze." I said slowly.

He was quiet for a moment, thinking of the right words to say. "Well, that's not too bad, right? And you'll be with Harry, so you won't be alone."

I shook my head and sat down on one of the leather couches. "It's the final task, meaning it'll be the most difficult. I'm terrified." I admitted, looking at hands as he sat down next to me.

"Look at me." He took my chin and turned my head so that I was looking at him. "You're Giovanna Lily Potter. You can do this. You've been through far worse, a maze is nothing. Okay?"

I nodded. "Okay." I said quietly. We both began to lean in.

"Please don't kiss. I just ate dinner." Eli interrupted. I blushed and pulled away quickly from my boyfriend, who rolled his eyes at the older Slytherin. "I couldn't help but overhear-"

"I'm sure you could." Draco glared at him.

"I very well could." He nodded, then turned to me. "You're going to be okay, Giovanna. And if you are in any kind of danger, Eli will be there to save the day."

I laughed and shook my head. "Please don't ever talk about yourself in third person ever again." He stuck his middle finger up and muttered "bitch," before walking away, making me giggle.

"You should probably get some rest for tomorrow." Draco told me. I nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, I'm just going to tell Harry first." I told him.

Harry.

What.

The third task. It's a maze.

What? What kind of maze? Like, is it-

Got to go, see you tomorrow.

Wait! I have to tell you something. Professor Snape- he stopped me in the hall and asked if I was stealing supplies from his storage closet.

"Hello-o? Earth to Giovanna?" Draco was waving his hand in front of my face. I blinked and looked at him. "You said you were going to tell Harry, and started staring off into space."

"Oh, yeah..." I trailed off, deciding I could tell him. "Harry and I have a telekinetic connection. We can talk to each other in our minds." I said, and Draco's jaw fell. "It's no biggy."

"No- no biggy?" He asked with wide eyes.

"Shh, he's trying to tell me something important now." I shushed Draco.

Sorry, it was Draco.

Ew.

What were you saying?

Oh, yeah. The supplies that was stolen was for Polyjuice Potion. Who do you think it is? I mean, Moody's been suspicious all year.

Yeah, I agreed. Do you think whoever is brewing it is the same person who killed Crouch?

I hadn't even thought of that. But probably.

"Hey, come on. You should really go to sleep and get rest. That head talking looks like it's draining every ounce of you." Draco said.

He was right. Harry and I couldn't have long conversations in our heads- it really took a toll on us.

Alright, we should get rest. Goodnight, lil bro.

Night, lil sis.

I shook my head and smiled. We genuinely had no clue who was older, so we both like to think that we're the older one.

"Since when has that been going on?" Draco raised his eyebrows.

"Since first year..." I smirked at his surprised expression. He went to stand up, but I grabbed his arm. "Wait!" He sat back down. "Could you, um, stay here? I don't really want to, uh, be alone. Can we stay on the couches tonight?"

Draco smiled a little. "Sure." He leaned back onto one of the pillows and I leaned onto him, my head resting on his chest, his heartbeat echoing in my ears. "Goodnight, Giovanna."

I smiled and closed my eyes. "Goodnight, Draco."

I was gathered with Harry and the other champions in front of the maze. The three schools were crowded in the entrance area. I glanced nervously at the crowd, but felt a little relieved when my eyes landed on Draco. I blew him a kiss, which he pretended to catch. We both rolled our eyes and laughed. I looked to Eli, who flipped me a thumbs up with one hand and a middle finger with the other.

I turned back to Harry, and it was clear we were both nervous. Dumbledore came between us and put reassuring hands on our shoulders. He then went up to the podium in the center of the area and began speaking.

"Earlier today, Professor Moody placed the Triwizard Cup deep within the maze. Only he knows its exact position." He began. I shared a glance with Harry. "Now, as Mr. Diggory, and Mr. and Miss. Potter are tied for first position, they will be the first to enter the maze." Cheers went up. Some for Cedric, some for Harry, some for me.

"Go, bitch!" One particular loud voice yelled. I glared up at Eli, who smirked back at me.

"They will be followed by Mr. Krum, and Miss. Delacour." More cheers sounded for our fellow champions.

"First person to touch the cup, will be the winner. I've instructed the staff to patrol the perimeter. Should at any point a contestant wish to withdraw from the task, he or she need only send up red sparks with their wand. Contestants, gather round." He stepped off the podium to speak to only us.

We all formed a small circle around the Headmaster as he spoke to us. I had a firm grip on Harry's arm due to my nervous state.

"In the maze, you'll find no dragons or creatures of the deep, instead you'll face something even more challenging. You see, people change in the maze. Oh, find the Cup if you can but be very wary, you could just lose yourself along the way." He walked away.

"Cheery, isn't it?" I muttered. Cedric, who was next to me heard me and laughed a little. I grinned.

"Champions, prepare yourselves!" Dumbledore called. We each walked to different entryways, Harry and I at the same one.

Professor Moody was stationed at our entryway. I spared a glare towards him before turning to look at the crowd once more. I found Hermione and Ron, who smiled and gave me thumbs up. I smiled back.

"On the count of three," Dumbledore spoke. "One-" Filch fired the canon and I groaned. Just as Harry and I entered, we looked at Dumbledore. He gave us a nod, and the bush-like walls closed, covering the crowd and muffling the cheers.

My mouth parted as I looked at the eery path in front of us. "Holy fu-"

"Shh." Harry cut me off.

"Shi-"

"Shut up."

"Alright, as-"

"Come on."

He grabbed my arm, and we started into the maze.
