Y/N's POV:
I am lying on my bed wiping tears from my eyes when I hear my name yelled. And it sounds like they are right next to me. Oh Shit, Abigail.
"Y/N! I told you not to screw up your hair!" "Sorry?" "You better be- you were suppose to be leaving 5 minuets ago! Your father is down stairs expecting you and then you go and screw up you hair! I do not get paid enough for the stress you put on my child" "Don't call me child. You are 20 years older than me Abigail, and I am technically a woman." "20 years is defiantly a large enough difference. Now I have finished your hair, get downstairs and explain to your father why you are late." "Yeah, yeah I will." I start walking down the hall and then remember my bag, racing back I get a glare from Abigail saying- Why are you back? You are late enough already! As I make my way down the hall for the second time Abigail shouts one more thing "If you drag me into the reason you are late you better pray to God in thanks that you are leaving this house and I no longer have access to you room!" That woman is scary, but she is like a mother to me, I have known her my whole life.
My father nods to me as I walk down the stairs. "Y/N, you are late." "I know father, I apologize." "Yes, yes. Now hurry along. Off to Virginia with you." "Yes father." I climb into the carriage as he shuts the door I stick my foot in the way so it can not close. "Father," "Yes Y/N?" "I love you pops." "Same to you Y/N. I will see you in a few days though so off you go"
The carriage pulls away and I see the familiar streets go by. I see my city pass by. The home that I have known for all of my life that I might never see again. I know that this is what I need to do yet it is still so hard to say goodbye to something that has become such an important place in my heart and in my history.
The plan, yes the plan. This can take my mind off of the sadness that it is caused by saying goodbye-THE PLAN. OK. So, after I convince the carriage driver to drop me off in town I make my way immediately to the nearest inn and get a room. I obviously use a fake name and lie to the innkeeper that my husband will be coming soon. As soon as I make it upstairs I change into a new set of clothes. Now this is the crazy part of the plan. The colonies are not kind to young women like me off on their own so my clothes are that of men. Yes, it is ridiculous. But it is the best chance that I have of not being harassed by drunk redcoats whenever I am out at night. Then I will go back downstairs and leave that inn. I only needed it for changing so there is no need to stick around. I must get as far away from the Jefron residence a possible for my father is bound to look for me. That is all I have the rest I will have to make up as I go along.
I have no idea how long it has been so far, only that I have a very long way left to go. Maryland, though it is right next to Virginia is still a full day's worth of traveling via carriage. I knew that it would be a long trip so I packed the book that I was currently reading. It is called Common Sense by a man named Tomas Paine he has a lot of interesting ideas, many of witch I agree with.
---Time skip brought to you by your author's laziness!---
I have finished Common Sense and it is officially my new favorite book. I look out at the window and see some slaves harvesting cotton in the hot summer sun. I grow saddened as I watch them pluck row after row of cotton. Thank the heavens that my father is as disgusted by slavery as I am or I would have had to run away a lot sooner. Slavery is a despicable act and all those that practice it is are lazy monsters of human beings. Nothing can make me think otherwise. The color of our skin should not determine how we are treated by the others around us, underneath we are all the same, a mixture of mussels, fat and bone.
As I am reviewing the despicable act that is slavery, my chauffeur calls back to me and says that we are nearing the town that Mr. Jefferson lives in, oh guess I got the name wrong after all. Huh, well anyway it will not matter as I will never marry that man.
As we arrive in town I ask the chauffeur to stop driving. "Ma'am, why do you wish to stop?" "Oh I was just wondering if you would let me off here so I can get acquainted with the city and wander around for a while?" "Miss, your father said to take you straight to the Jefferson's household." "Pish-posh, we are earl-no? I have plenty of time to wonder around a tad bit." "If you insist, though I will have to accompany you." "Now that is just silly! I can take care of myself thank you very much! Anyway you ought to deliver my bags in case anyone might try and steal them. I do not know how people act in Virginian Cites." "But, but" "No, buts. I am getting out and exploring. You head to the Jefferson's household and I shall go to the downtown area of the city. If they send you back to get me I will be in that area. Otherwise I shall catch a carriage when I wish to return." "If you are sure Miss Woods" "I am."
Thank goodness, that took way long.
