"Excuse me, what?" I didn't understand the words that came out of Kaleb's mouth. Want me as in what? That could mean numerous things. For all I know, he could be apart of a secret organization who chose me. Or, he could want me as in he wants to kill me.
"He's right. We want you to be with us," Keith added to his brother's statement and I still couldn't wrap my head around this situation.
"What do you mean?" I asked them, and Kaleb sighed as he grabbed my wrist and pulled me close to him. My body was pressed against his. I had never been that close to one of the Korren brothers, and I was breathing in his strong masculine scent that I wasn't sure if I liked or not. Kaleb leaned his head in, and his lips were only inches away from mine. I had to break free of his grip. I couldn't let others see what was happening.
"What do you think we mean?" He responded in a low and husky voice as he kept his eyes on mine. His hand pressed into the small of my back, and I let out a short gasp. He grinned, but this time, it wasn't his usual annoying one.
I pushed away from him and I glanced between the two of them. "If you guys want to kill me, can it please wait? I'm really enjoying life right now, and I promised my mother that I'd take care of her when she's in old age, and I haven't fully experienced life yet--"
"Rebecca! Oh my God, we're not going to kill you!" Kaleb interrupted me as he held a hand to his forehead. Keith couldn't help, but snicker at my reaction. I still stood there confused and demanding a straightforward answer.
"We're fond of you, and hope that you'd consider dating us." Keith spoke up and stopped beating around the bush. But, even if he did got to the point, it still confused me even more and I felt like my heart had stopped beating.
"'Us'? I think you meant to say 'me'. Right?" There were knots in the pit of my stomach as my eyes continued to flicker back and forth at Keith and Kaleb.
"No. Us. Kaleb and I want you," Keith said and my fingers immediately went to my wrist to check my pulse. It was racing like crazy, and I didn't notice until now how sweaty I've gotten.
Instead of saying anything back, I spun on my heel and dashed down the hall, not wanting to look back at them. I rushed into the girls' bathroom and I locked myself in a stall and I sat down on the toilet. I shoved my face into my hands, slowly digesting all of the information I had just received. They were probably playing some stupid joke on me, and I was almost dumb enough to fall for it. There was no way that they would both want to date me, because to me, that was weird. Them sharing a girlfriend? No way they would do that, right?
My phone chimed and I noticed it was from one of my teammates. My coach was looking for me, and I told my teammate I had an emergency, but I'll be there soon. I needed a few moments to compose myself, before I went to the school's gym. I stepped out of the stall, rinsed my face with warm water and then dabbed it dry with paper towels. I gave myself a nod in the mirror before stepping out. I quickly made my way to the gym, and the net was already set up and the girls had begun to warm up.
"Where the hell have you been?!" My coach shouted at me and she held up her arm and was tapping at her watch. "What was your emergency?"
"Menstruation," I answered before running off to the locker room. It wasn't entirely wrong, I was nearing the end of mine, so I didn't completely lie. I got dressed as fast as I could into my spandex shorts and my tank, and I joined the rest of the girls when I got out of the locker room. The cheerleaders were in the gym practicing their routines because it was too cold outside and it actually was snowing.
We finished up our warm up exercises and went to the tub of volleyballs. "Was it really menstruation?" Georgia, my closest teammate, asked me. She had an eyebrow raised, and I knew she didn't believe me. There was a grin on her face as she grabbed a ball and tossed it to me. I caught it with ease.
