After the game, Celia was glad she had some sort of distraction. Her team had ended up losing, to Jed's glee, and he didn't mind rubbing that fact in her face. Even if her distraction, was preparing for her and Jed's adventure, it was still something to keep her mind off being a sore loser.
There wasn't enough time for her to shower, though she was certain Jed wouldn't care, he had seen her looking far worse than sweaty. She compromised with herself by pulling her hair back and changing into a fresh pair of leggings. She didn't have a clue what they were doing that night, but knowing Jed it wasn't the typical nice dinner date.
Right on cue, at midnight Jed knocked on her door three times.
"Took you long enough," Celia joked as she pushed out her door. "I was beginning to think you were going to bail."
Jed playfully punched her arm. "Don't ever doubt my loyalty, Celia," he teased back.
Celia rolled her eyes as he quoted her, but she didn't forget it. He really was paying attention more than she knew.
Together they snuck out to the parameter fence of the Salvatore School. Even though Jed was leading the way, Celia knew the route by heart. Apparently it wasn't just her who used the hole she created.
On the other side of the fence, they traveled a path Celia was unfamiliar with. The trees and the bushes were more prominent and overbearing that the route to Mystic Falls. It was obviously the path less traveled. She had to watch where Jed stepped carefully because he warned her of the animal holes or poison ivy that scattered the trail.
Celia thought she knew Jed, but she had no idea where he was leading her. She guessed that maybe he had more secrets than he seemed, though didn't everybody?
"You better not be taking me to your hookup spot," Celia warned as the brush cleared up.
Jed feigned a hurt expression. "Who do you think I am?"
She ignored his question, focusing on her footwork as they shifted to a more rocky terrain. They were in the middle of nowhere.
"You don't plan on murdering me, do you? Because I've dealt with enough murderous things in the past week to last me a lifetime."
Jed groaned in front of her. "Shut up, Celia. We're almost there."
Not long after that comment, he came to a rather abrupt stop, causing Celia to almost walk right into his back. They were standing at the edge of what looked like a quarry. The cliff cut straight down into the water that looked like emeralds as it reflected the night sky.
Yet the private property signs were the only warning signals going off in Celia's head. "Are we allowed to be here?"
Jed looked out at the view. For once his face was unreadable to her. "I've been coming here since I was a kid, even before I arrived at the Salvatore School. I've never seen anyone else here."
There were many times where Celia and Jed were alone and talked about their pasts. In her opinion, Jed was lucky. He grew up knowing what he was. His parents were a part of one of the many Appalachian Wolf Packs, so they prepared him for when the change came. That didn't necessarily mean he had it easy though. From what Celia understood, his parents put a lot of pressure on him so he wouldn't change. They wanted him to be the straight-A student, but also the temperate athlete. The student body president without a competitive side. That just wasn't Jed. And, though Jed never would admit it, Celia thought that's what drove Jed to snap.
Six years ago, around the time of Celia's change, Jed and a group of his classmates when on a trip. There was an accident on a boat, and only Jed made it out.
