A/n: Hello! Welcome to the preview of my first multiple-part story! Now it's important that you know a few things before you continue, so I'd really appreciate it if you read this entire note.

1. This is a story including the 10th Doctor, Donna Noble, and you! But unlike any of my previous reader inserts or any that I've read before, who and what you are is a mystery, not unlike the story itself! As the story progresses, you will discover more and more about the reader's past, abilities, and what she is.

2. This short  story is expected to be four chapters long. Each chapter will most likely be decently long by one-shot standards, so I apologize to those who do not appreciate such lengthy pieces in advance.

3. I may or may not write one-shots in between chapters in between chapters, but I DO have one planned just before I post the first official chapter of this story (including the 11th Doctor)

4. YES, THIS IS AN X READER. Though you are not a 'specific main character' in the sense that you haven't been traveling with the Doctor previously, I promise there is a relationship involved. Your involvement in the story is similar to Reinette's in the episode The Girl in the Fireplace. This means that you are there for most of the action,  a crucial part in the story, and basically the entire plot revolves around you, but sometimes the "camera" per se isn't on you the entire time.

5. PLEASE COMMENT! I SERIOUSLY LOVE TO READ THEM. IT MAKES MY HEART SO HAPPY! (and maybe vote too if you enjoy :D)

That's all for now! thank ya'll for reading my shenanigans and I hope you enjoy this prologue!

The Doctor's trainers smacked the dusty ground hard, his coat billowing behind him like a parachute as he sprinted through the dry husk of what used to be a town. Adrenaline and urgency raced through his veins like a swiftly spreading inferno, his dual hearts drumming out a swift pace that resonated in his ears and kept him going.

Sprinting beside him and struggling to keep up, Donna Noble swore softly under her breath, eyes rimmed red from a combination of irritation and pain. She clutched her swollen right arm to her chest protectively with her left, the appendage angled outward in a way that 'unnatural' couldn't even begin to describe.

The Doctor winced at every sharp intake of breath his companion uttered, wanting nothing more than to stop right now and tend to her injury, but the hail of arrows and spearheads behind them prevented him from even reasoning with their pursuers. If they could just make it to the TARDIS, they'd be safe. It was only the matter of getting to the ship alive that was the issue.

A halberd flew precariously close to the Doctor's head before burying itself into a splintered wooden sign that lent crookedly against a lamp post. The army was getting closer.

"Come on, Donna!" He shouted, though he knew she really was doing her best.

"What, do you think I'm fast walking? Sure this seems like such a lovely time for a stroll!" The Doctor grinned despite himself. Even with a severely broken arm, rapidly repeating energy, and an army advancing behind her, Donna could still muster up enough resolve to apply her signature sarcasm.

The road was rapidly shortening, so the Doctor rocketed around a corner, the rubber soles of his shoes kicking up dust as he sprinted. Eyes flicking upwards to map how long this stretch was, the Doctor suddenly felt an immense surge of relief for there, parked on the street corner, was his beloved TARDIS.

His hand flew up to the lining of his jacket where he frantically scrambled for his screwdriver. Finally wrapping his digits around the smooth metal exterior, he whipped it out like it were a wand and with the single press of a button, the doors of his zaffre blue time machine burst open with a dramatic flourish.
