Thea woke up mid-morning the next day, to a summons to Dumbledore's office. The meeting between the professors on Sunday had been completely boring, Thea didn't mind saying. It was like watching snails trying to get something done.

Scratch that. Watching a group of snails conversing with each other would have been way more entertaining than the painstaking hours she spent listening to what should be done about the attacks on Filch's cat and the Gryffindor student. It wasn't that she didn't think the problem was serious, but in her mind, there shouldn't have been a debate on what to do at all.

The only thing any of them could do was be careful and encourage students to do the same. In Uagadou, if something like this had happened, Aurors would have already been there to investigate and help protect the inhabitants of the school. Why that wasn't happening here, Thea had no clue. What in the wizarding world was wrong with Hogwarts?

When she was vocal about her opinion, however, she was immediately reassured that the professors would be able to handle it. The only person who seemed to take her side in the matter was McGonagall.

"We really should send for Kingsley at least," McGonagall told Dumbledore.

"Mr. Shacklebolt is tied up in some serious matters at the moment," Dumbledore replied, tapping his index finger on his chin. "We are all very accomplished witches and wizards. I'm sure if we all put our heads together we can have this problem fixed in a hurry."

"But what about the boy's parents?" Thea asked. "They've been told, I'm sure, what happened. Won't they demand something more be done?"

"Something will be done, Professor Kellan," Dumbledore tried to reassure her.

Thea tried to bite her tongue, she really did. She was a new professor, so she didn't want to feel as if she was stepping out of line, but Dumbledore's nonchalant behavior was getting on her nerves. "Headmaster...I was hired..." she looked around the office, and then corrected herself, "...we were all hired to teach the students. A lot of us are not equipped to deal with something like this. There's obviously some dark magic occurring here, and--"

"It's always hard to admit there are things you cannot handle, Professor Kellan," Snape cut in smoothly.

Thea's jaw dropped. "That's not what I was saying, Professor. I can handle it just fine, it's just that--"

"So, if you can handle it, where is the problem? Are you saying you believe that there are some of us in this room that fare worse than you?" Snape interrupted her again.

Thea snapped her mouth shut, fuming. She nearly got herself into trouble, but luckily, McGonagall came to her rescue. "Severus, I do not believe now is a time to question the resolution of any of the professors. Even though I do not fully agree with Thea, her concerns are well-founded...Is there something you were wanting to say, Silvanus?"

Thea looked to where Professor Kettleburn seemed to be holding something in. If McGonagall hadn't addressed him, the young woman was sure the man would have internally burst.
