Hi...I'm Kaiden Walsh. I'm 17 years old, and this is a little segment about my history and life.
In the year 2002, I was born with a congenital heart disease called Dirofilaria Immitis. Also known as, "Heartworm". Yes, I was born with worms in my heart. Beside the point, before it was time for me to be unleashed into this world; my heart was so small that the worms took up most of the space in my chest cavity.
Here's a little medical and mathematical lesson for you guys, the worms were about 18 in. (45.72 cm) and my heart was 3 in. (7.62 cm). I had an adult handful of 18 in. worms in my 3 in. heart. You can probably guess that I barely survived. And you'd be correct.
My mom was rushed to an OR to have an emergency c-section done so no damages were done to my heart during the birthing process. Once I was born they had over 4 hours of surgery wrapped up in my tiny little self. They definitely had their work cut out for them .(haha see what I did there..no? ok MOVING ON)
You would think removing heartworms wouldn't be too hard but no. When you have a baby who is only 15mins old it's not easy. A baby's anatomy is very fragile compared to an adults. You have to be very delicate with a baby's organs more than an adults.
After I spent a little over 3 weeks in the NICU be monitored and watched 24/7 my doctors felt confident in me leaving the hospital. My very young and worried mother was happy to FINALLY take her baby home with her.
As days bled into years we get to the point in time when my life start to turn to shit. I was struggling in school, I started getting called "Heartworm", I couldn't keep a stable relationship. But I met this girl who helped me through so much!! I became BEST FRIENDS with her and wouldn't trade her for the world!! At the point we are at now I am at the age of 17...
