The forest was dark, a gray mist covering shriveled pine branches and dead oaks. Not a sound came from around but the eerie whisper of the wind that blew through the branches. The silence was broken by the sound of light pawsteps as a branch cracked, alerting everyone nearby to the presence of a dark gray she-cat covered in scars. Her tail flicked as she passed through the bushes, looking around before going forward again.

A gray, ginger and white tom stepped out in front of the she-cat, dipping his head to her silently. She smiled at him as if he were an old friend... and he was. "Velokien. How nice to see you." The tricolored tom answered only with a nod before turning around, gesturing with his tail for her to follow him. The gray cat obliged, following him into the mist, which was turning to a blood-red color. They eventually came to a clearing filled with cats, all of them either conversing or sparring with one another.

Another large tom, a white one, stepped up to them. "Cinderbird. Velokien." The two smaller cats dipped their heads to him. Cinderbird spoke again, smiling with a hiss in her voice. "Cougar. How nice to see you again. She looked up at him with amber eyes, still smiling sweetly like she always did.

Velokien stayed silent, walking past Cougar and towards a group of the younger cats. The large white tom watched, his stubby tail twitching as he grunted. "Still ain't talking after all these moons." "Don't speak about our leader like that, Cougar. You know what he could do." "Oh, I know. I just think he should speak, bein in the afterlife and all." "He was mute in life, and so will not speak in death." Cinderbird glanced over to Velokien, who had pulled a cat away from the group and led him into the dark abyss of a forest.

"That poor apprentice doesn't know what he is about to get into..." She purred, chuckling to herself. Cougar looked down at her, smirking. "Shall we go watch?" "Of course. it's been too long."
