Only three more minutes till my shift ended. My left leg bounced up and down continuously; making a soft clicking noise as the heels of my new brown, suede boots hit the floor. As soon as the ancient t grandfather clock down the hall struck 4 O'clock, I grabbed my backpack and leather jacket and ran out to the deserted parking lot. I hopped on my most prized possession and threw on my helmet. My baby (a Yamaha Fz-07) came out when I was about a year old and it was all the rage according to Leo (my adoptive dad). I was 6, I think, when I found saw it on a magazine of dad's. It was love at first sight .Once I saw it on the cover of the magazine I knew that it was the one for me. That day I started saving up for it. Ever since then I've done extra chores extra shifts at every part-time job I've ever had. I've babysat for almost every child in my neighborhood and every niece/nephew/cousin of mine and my parent's friend's children. But it's all worth it when I drive down at the tracks.

Normally I would take my own sweet time packing up, wait for the next person to come for their shift, talk to them for a bit then go home. But today wasn't like any other day.
Today was the day that my whole life would change. For the better or for the worse; I don't know yet. Today was the day that I found out who my biological parents were.

I always knew that I was adopted. I mean it's not hard to tell when you're the only south asian girl in a family full of Koreans and white people. But I was 15 when I found out the story of how I was found .That I was left on the side of the road right next to my all-time favorite bookstore with nothing but a necklace to remind me of my past life.
I literally have no words to describe how grateful I am to my parents for taking me in. They didn't have to; they could've left me at the adoption centre or even at the side of the road. Instead they took me in and raised me like I was their biological child and gave me the best childhood that I could have ever asked for. I spent endless amounts of time playing with my siblings.I never felt like I was out of place or didn't belong there. I mean it wasn't hard to know that I wasn't my parents' biological child. I mean it doesn't take a genius to figure out that you're somewhat different when you're the only brown person in a Korean-White family, but they always made me feel comfortable. Even my grandparents have taken me in and treated me like their own blood.

Soon enough I got to the end of my road where an abnormally tall guy leant against the lamppost; an
iPhone 8 in one hand and the other stuffed in his pocket. His ebony hair was unruly probably from the amount of times he ran his hands through it.
His cobalt blue eyes bore holes into his phone and his eyebrows were furrowed.

'YO! STREAM' I parked my bike and shouted at him. A smile broke out on both our faces as he looked up and shook his head at my nickname for him.
'I've known you since I was four. That's 12 and half years. I don't get how you still get my name wrong.' His deep chuckle ran through the air. 'Say it with me. RIVER Thomas'
'Stream Thomas'
He rolled his eyes at me, 'Why do I even try with you?'
'Cuz I'm your best friend.'
'I'm seriously reconsidering my previous decisions'
'Hey! I let you call me Shortcake!'
'Yeah after letting you punch me every time I said it to you for three months in 5th grade!'
'Good times,' I let out with a short laugh. 'Now hurry up my appointments at 5:15(pm) and it's already 4:30.'
'Fine but you owe me pizza after this for making me lose my time with my precious snowball. 'Rolling my eyes at him I agreed. I swear that he loves that guinea pig more that he loves his parents.Putting his helmet on he got on behind me and I started my bike.

I was finally going to find out who my parents were.
