Kehlani POV

"Goodmorning boo" my mom stated as I walked past her room. I figured she was sleeping in but I guess not.

"Morning momma" I said walking into her room and getting in bed with her.

"My big baby" she laughed as I cuddled up under her. I laughed, I've always been a mommas girl and these days she's been so busy working we rarely get quality time.

"No work today?" I asked.

"Nope, just catching up on some sleep." She replied. I nodded and turned my head towards the TV.

"You have any plans today?" she asked hopeful. She was constantly getting onto me about staying hold up in the house.

"No ma."

"Kehlani, you know I love you and your company baby but you need to go live your life. You're a senior go make some memories!" She lectured. I mentally rolled my eyes. I'm not the child she needs to be lecturing.

"I kno mama" I said.

"I'm serious Kehlani if you don't go and make some friends I'm going to go up there and find you some myself." She said with a straight face. I laughed.

"Anyways where did you find that sister of yours?" She asked looking at the TV. I went back and fourth with myself trying to figure out if I should tell my mom or not.

"Just at one of her friends house, ignoring us." I said. She nodded. It wasn't my place to tell her, her youngest girl is popping pussy.

"I don't know what I'm going to do with her."she sighed.

"Boarding school?" I asked looking up at her. She laughed.

"Even if we did have the money for that I would have to drag her there." she said laying her head against the headboard. I nodded. I just can't get that image out of my head. What happened with her?

After laying in the bed for about a half a hour with my mom I decided to get up and get ready. I slowly got up out the bed making sure not to wake up my mom who had fallen back asleep. As I walked back to my room I saw Lauren coming out of the bathroom.

"Kehlani can I ta-"

"No Lauren...not right now." I said walking in my room and shutting the door. I have no idea what to say to her. I tried to rid my mind of the whole ordeal as I got my things ready to go take a shower.

After I got dressed I grabbed my keys and bag heading to the door. I knew that Cassidy was still in the house but she got to wherever they were so I'm sure she could find a way home. Getting in the car I made my way to a near by park to decompress.

I pulled up to the park and there was a lot of guys playing basketball. I contemplated on whether I should leave or not but I decided to ignore my anxiety and head over to the swings anyways.I stared down at the ground as I walked to avoid eye contact with anybody. I let out a breath that I didn't realize I was holding once I made it to the empty swing set. Plopping down I put one of my headphones in and began to swing my legs back and forth.

After a couple peaceful minutes a basketball comes flying by my head only missing me by a few inches. My eyes widened as I snapped out of my relaxed state. A sweaty tall boy I recognized from school (Jamal) came over to retrieve it

"My fault." He said reaching down to grab the ball. I looked up finally meeting his gaze.

"It's okay." I said softly. His face read a suprised reaction.

"Yooooo..you can talk! All these years I haven't heard you say a word!" He said smirking and dropping into the swing next to me. I mentally rolled my eyes I talk but when I do nobody listens.

"Yeah I can definitely talk." I said smiling with a amusement.

"So why you never say nothing Kendra?" He asked.

"First of all my name is Kehlani and second I don't have much to talk about. When I do talk no one listens so I just mind my business." I said smartly.

"Okay watch your attitude!!!!" He said leaning back and snapping his fingers like a gay boy. I laughed and looked up as two more boys ran over.

"Nigga what's taking your sus ass so fucking long with the ball." one of them said coming over and looking crazy at Jamal.

"Marcus don't you and DJ see me and my best friend talking?" Jamal said tossing the ball to the boy.

"Since when are we even friends let alone best friends?" I said turning my head to the side and raising my brow at him. The dudes Marcus and DJ laughed hysterically.

"Since right now little girl." he said matter of factly.

"Anyways Kehlani this is Marcus and Dj. Marcus and DJ this is Kehlani. She goes to our school." Jamal said.

"Oh wassup shorty you must be new." Marcus said looking at me.

"Yeah I haven't ever seen you before" DJ said agreeing. I was about to reply when Jamal cut me off.

"No she not new she been there the whole time she just a loner and a mute." He said bluntly. I dropped my mouth open and leaned over to thump his head. He hissed and jumped back.

"I'm not a mute! I'm just quiet." I said defensively.

"Whatever." He groaned rubbing his head. The other boys starting yelling for them to bring the ball back.

"Well I'll see you on Monday bestie." Jamal said hopping up.

"Nice meeting you shorty." DJ said as he winked at me before walking away.I blushed as Marcus nodded his head at me and then they all jogged back to the court.
While it was nice having some peer interaction when Monday comes i'm sure they will forget about me. After all why would the popular jocks want anything  to do with the quiet shy girl?
