Kehlani
The weekend rolled by so quickly and now I find myself roaming through these loud halls again. I sigh as I open my locker and grab my calculus book out. I shut and lock it back and head to my first period.
As usual this class is silent as students read or begin reviewing the chapter early before the actual lesson. Since calculus is rare for students in high school to take only kids who are advanced in math are in this class. I actually believe math is one of my sore spots as far as intelligence but I made it here so I won't question it.
I flashed my teacher Mr.Cotton a quick smile as he greeted me while wiping off his chalk board. Making it to my seat in the middle of the classroom I opened my book to the designated number on the board.
"Good morning everyone! I hope that all of you had an amazing and restful weekend because today we are getting right back to work. We will begin the chapter on derivative's so if you haven't already please open your books to the page on the board. Lets begin!" he said with a smile. Mr.Cotton is always happy and for some reason it makes me feel better. I lean up and pull out my iPad to take notes as we begin the lesson.
3.5 HOURS LATER
"Okay everyone your dismissed." my study hall teacher said. I closed my laptop satisfied that I had finally finished a program for my computer science class. Now I could relax and go to lunch. I headed to Ms. Andersons class to grab my lunch and I usually eat in there as well.
I walked in and went directly to her fridge and grabbed my lunch putting it in the microwave.
"Kehlani I am leaving for the day you have to go eat lunch in the cafeteria." She said grabbing her lanyard and her purse. I groaned as I got my fried rice out of the microwave.
"whyyyyy?"i pouted. She rolled her eyes.
"Kehlani if you don't get your dramatic self out of my classroom." she said laughing. I cut my eyes at her as I grabbed my food and walked out the door.
"Go socialize!!" she said smiling and giving me the thumbs up as she locked the door. I faked a smile and then put on my straight face again. She laughed and walked towards the exit. I haven't sat in the lunchroom in months. Walking in my anxiety skyrocketed as I saw all of the crowded tables and tried to maneuver through them to find a spot.
I noticed a figure walking up to me and I didn't look up not wanting to cause any attention.
"Hey bestie!!" Jamal said hugging me.(Yall we gonna pretend like corona don't exist in this book😂) I looked up and raised my eyebrow at him.
"Hey?" I said as it came out more like a question than intended it to but I was just shocked he remembered me.
"Come sit with us" he said leading the way to a table in the back.
"I've never seen you in this lunch before, don't you have 1st lunch?"he said while walking.
"No, I usually eat with Ms.Anderson." I say .
"Kehlani that's so lame. You're eating in here now."he said putting his arm around me in a friendly way and leading me to the table.
"Whatever.." I said quietly. At the table say about 5 other guys.
"Hey negroes" Jamal said sitting down and pulling me in the seat by him.
"This is kehlani. This is Zaire,Mikey, Melo, and you already met DJ and Marcus." He introduced us as they all looked at me.
"Hi." I waved shyly . They all nodded and said wassup except for the bright guy he referred to as melo.
"Y'all together?" Zaire questioned taking a bite of his fries.
"No we just friends." I said as Jamal was eating a Popeyes sandwich.
"In that case, where have you been all my life?" Mikey said smiling and taking the empty seat on the opposite side of Jamal. I laughed causing Jamal to mug me and him.
"Nigga my best friend doesn't want your crusty ass." He said wiping his mouth. Mikey mugged him and reached across me to flick him in the head.
"You better be glad i'm eating because I would lay your ass out if I wasn't." he said taking another bite. Mikey rolled his eyes and waved him off.
"Yeah aight whatever nigga" Mikey replied.
"For real though Kehlani where have you been because I haven't ever seen you." Zaire said.
"Pretty much I take all advanced classes, eat lunch with ms Anderson, and I don't go anywhere really."I said shrugging and opening up my rice.
"Why that's so damn boring?" Marcus replied.
"I don't know i'm not a social butterfly like yall." I said grinning a little.
"Well what do you do for fun" DJ asked.
"I watch Netflix." I said taking a bite of my food. They all looked at me with blank stares for a minute.
"Kehlani i'm talking about real fun. So you mean to tell me you don't have any friends? You don't go to any parties?" Dj further questioned. They all look at me curiously awaiting the answer as well. Melo just stayed in his phone I saw him slightly role his eyes.
"Well, no I guess not" I said shrugging. As Zaire was about to open his mouth to say something else he was cut off.
"Okay can we talk about something else besides this boring ass bitch?" Melo said finally looking up. My cheeks heated up with embarrassment. What did I ever do to him?
"Melo shut your grumpy ass up and she isn't a bitch. This is our new friend and she's going to be here whether you like it or not." Zaire said taking up for me. I looked at him surprised. Melo smack his lips and got up from the table.
"Don't mind his light bright ass he got a stick up his ass today." DJ said. All of them start laughing and we started talking more about nothing in general. I think I might finally have some friends, I will just stay away from Melo he's the bitch.
