Hope opened the door to the music room to see Black Mist wandering around the opened space with a smile on his face. He smiled slightly. It wasn't often a Dark Number smiled so freely.
Hope closed the door silently and frowned, sighing. He knew his foster son was angry at him for not finding him, but in truth, he had been looking for him all over the Number Realm, even though the most reasonable place would be the town closest to the orphanage. He had checked there, but he had found nothing.
He walked away from the door, wondering how in the Number Realm he would get Black Mist to understand that.
~.~.~
Black Mist's last stop was the piano, which he touched with only his fingertips. The material felt smooth. He didn't know what it was called, but he liked it.
"If only this was here when I was at the orphanage," he mumbled to himself with a small smile. "I probably would have had fun with this." His smile faded.
He couldn't stay long. He had to get back to his new home. He never felt right being taken care of, so he took care of himself as a child. It was difficult, and he wanted to kill himself almost every day, but he made it to this day and age.
"Do you wish to go back?" asked the voice. He was back.
Black Mist shook his head with a sigh. "I don't want to, but I have Togo back."
"Why is that?" The voice knew what his answer was gonna be.
"You know why. I never feel right with someone taking care of me. I need my space."
The presence chuckled. "I see."
Black Mist touched the keys and ran his clawed fingers over them gently. Then, he pulled his hand away and exited the room. He wouldn't be here until he was ready to move back in. He wanted to come in and go out as he pleased. He couldn't do that until he was an adult.
Black Mist exited the room and looked around at the children again. They ran around screaming and shouting, having so much fun!
"The Dark Number!" one kid exclaimed, but it wasn't in fear. It sounded like the child admired him.
Black Mist looked at the children with confusion. "You're not scared?" Normally, the Regular and Light Numbers would be scared or angry at him.
A Light Number girl stepped up to him, smiling. "Papa told us that it doesn't matter what the Number is. We should accept them for who they are."
Wise words...
Black Mist nodded with a sigh. He was beginning to like these children.
