Chapter 1.
9.00am
Another day waking up early to find a job in the rainy London. I’ve been living here for a few weeks, not too much. But I really needed a job if I wanted to keep living here. I’m originally from the US, Dallas, to be more specific. But I was in love with London since I was a kid so that’s why I moved here all by myself. Another reason why I moved here all by myself was because I was now an adult. I turned 19 in June and that’s why I decided to live alone. My parents didn’t complain about it. Actually, I think they were happy that I left them there. They and I kind of not got along so well. They always told me I wasn’t a good girl, that I always caused them trouble. I think they were right. I was a bad girl at high school, also my grades weren’t too good. I was that way and I wasn’t going to change, I always liked to to what I wanted. Being free, feeling independent. And that’s what I’m doing now.
I got up and had a quick shower. I dressed up, took my coat and my keys, and got out of my little apartment. I had to say I lived in a good place. It was in the center of London, I just had to go downstairs to see all these stores and cafes and everything. When I was outside, I put my coat and I connected my headphones to my iPhone. I started to walk and I disconnected. The kind of music I heard was not the kind of music everyone liked. I liked rock, heavy, rap. Those kind of songs that sometimes, it inspired me or made me feel better, even though people think that kind of music is for people who are considered bad influences. It wasn't like that. They had inspiring lyrics. Lyrics that talked about real life, about love, about low times, about things that happens in real life and not that kind of music that is all about selling albums. Yes, I'm talking about Pop music. Commercial music. I hated it. I didn't listen to it never in my life. I didn't know about any pop group or singers because I didn't want to.
I went inside a few stores and left my curriculum there. Honestly, I didn't care about what kind of job I had to get, I just needed the money. I kept walking down the streets when I felt my phone vibrating. "Mom" I read when I took my phone. "Oh God.." I thought to myself.
*on the phone*
"Hello mom." I said with a serious tone.
"Hello darling how are you?" She asked faking a happy voice. I knew she called me to know how I was, well, in fact, she wanted to know if I was doing bad so she could laugh at me and say "I told you".
"I'm good, living a wonferful life here" I said with a smiley tone. I was lying. I needed a job as soon as possible or I had to come back to Dallas.
"Oh I'm glad baby" she lied.
"Thank you" I replied.
"Your dad says he misses you" she told me.
"HA" I laughed out loud.
"That's not what he said the last time he called me, mom" I told her. The last time we talked, he told me I was a bad daughter for leaving them there. It didn't hurt me though, I was used to hear those words coming from him.
"This time is for real, Cristine" she said. I hated when she said my whole name like that. To be honest, I hated my name. I liked people calling me Cris or Cristy but not Cristine. Well, no one called me by my name since I don't have friends here. I laughed at that thought. I was alone but I was happy.
"Well mom, whatever. I gotta go now, bye" I said hanging up the phone, I didn't let her say goodbye. I was really tired of her bullshit.
I looked at the grey sky and saw more clouds than before. Nice, now it was going to start to rain. After I thought that, I felt the rain pouring in my skin. I decided to stop my job search for today. Unfortunatelly, I forgot to take my umbrella with me this morning. Cool, now I'd have to run home. I put on the hood of my coat and started running while I tried to cover all the papers I was carrying in my hands. The rain was hitting my face, I could see nothing. Finally I saw the flat were I live. I kept running until I arrived to the last corner but when I turned it, I felt my body hitting against something and I felt myself falling down. When I opened my eyes, I saw all my papers in the foor, they were all wet. I looked up to see what was the thing I collided with.
"Are you okay?" I heard a deep voice say as he helped me to pick all the papers from the floor.
"Do you think I am okay?" I said getting up.
"Ermm.." He started to say.
"Dude why you didn't look where you were going?" I said pushing him a bit. I was so mad. All the papers were awfull. Now I had to do them all again.
"Excuse me but you were the one who came running to me" he said.
"Huh? It's rainning dude, what do you want me to do, sing in the rain or what? I didn't have an umbrella like you" I told him. I looked at him. His face was a poem. He was looking at me with a face like saying "what the fuck", I think he wanted to tell me something.
"Fine, take it, it's all yours now." he said giving me his umbrella.
"Now you won't crash with people anymore. Are you happy now?" He added. I swear this kid was kidding me.
"What? Are you laughing at me? Who do you think you are?" I asked him with an angry tone.
"I'm pretty sure you don't know who I am" he said laughing and taking a few curls out of his face because the rain made all his curly hair wet.
"of course I don't, and I don't want to" I told him.
"I think you're the first one who tells me that" he said laughing and going away.
"What the fuck dude?" I said standing there looking how he left. What was wrong with him.
Who the hell did he think he was? The king of the world or what? I opened the umbrella he gave me and went back home. I decided to take a hot bath. I couldn't believe what just happened. But what I couldn't believe either was that now I had to make all the curriculums again and that made me so mad.
