Prompt: After five years, Bucky finally returns home to find a huge surprise

The past five years had been absolute hell.
You had been home, minding your own business, when a breaking news story came on the TV. It was being reported that people were turning to dust out of nowhere. Just like you, everyone had been minding their own business when suddenly the person next to them turned to dusk on the floor. People were losing their families, friends, loved ones, and at the time there was no explanation for it. Just panic.
You began to panic as well. Bucky was in Wakanda, fighting some alien Titan that was coming to Earth. The last time he had run off to a fight, years before you had met, it had ended in him having to be cryogenically frozen as he was still brainwashed. You couldn't help but worry this fight had had another bad outcome. And unfortunetly, your worries were confirmed when Steve called you and immediately apologized.
You were hopeful that somehow, the Avengers would find a way to bring back everyone that turned to dust. Then, when that didn't happen, you were hopeful that it would just...happen. That one day they'd all come back. Then, when that didn't happen, you lost all hope.
You thought it would get easier as the years passed, but it just got harder. You never forgot Bucky, you never moved on. Even five years later, you woke up every morning expecting him to be lying next to you and it would take you a moment to remember the heartbreaking truth.
On one day, you were driving home from work. You didn't understand why you still needed to work, it all felt worthless when half the world had disappeared. But, you still needed to pay the bills, so you dragged yourself out of bed in the mornings to go to work.
You were stopped at a stoplight when you heard someone behind you honk their horn. You looked into the rearview mirror to find people just standing in the middle of the road, looking around confused. It was the same ahead of you - people randomly standing in the road who weren't there before.
You got out of your car, not sure why but you felt like you needed to talk to one of these people. More car horns honked, this time at you, as you approached one of the people standing in the road.
"What's going on?" the person asked you. "Where am I?"
"You're in New York," you responded. "You...you just appeared out of nowhere. Do you know...how you got here?"
"I was just standing here," the stranger said. "I was standing here and everyone around me was turning to dust...then it was like I fell asleep...what's the date?"
"April 26th, 2023." You added the year, having a feeling you knew where this was going.
"Wait, what?! I...I could've sworn I've been asleep or something for a few hours, not five years!"
The panic from the newly appeared people started to spread as they found out that they had been gone for five years. It hit you then what this meant; the dusted people had returned. Which meant Bucky must be back. He had to be, right?
When everything in the street started to clear up, you got back into your car and raced home. Your phone was in your hand as you clumsily tried to dial Steve's number, your hand shaking in anxiousness and excitement. You were trying to unlock the front door, until you realized the babysitter was there so the door shouldn't be locked.
"Loraine!" you called as you continued to try and dial Steve's number. "Something has happened, I might need you to look after Stephen for another little while. I'll pay you overtime - "
You stopped as you walked into the living room to find a familiar face sitting on the couch. You dropped your phone, tears welling up in your eyes. You didn't even wait for him to stand up before you threw yourself at him, wrapping your arms tightly around him and holding him close, never wanting to let you.
"(Y/N)," he breathed. His voice saying your name sounded like music to your ears. "Baby, I'm so sorry - "
"Don't say that," you cut him off. "Don't apologize, it's not your fault. Steve told me everything, you guys tried your best. But now you're back! Oh my God, I'm so happy."
"Mommy?"
You turned to look at your five year old son, Stephen, who was standing in the doorway of the living room, just looking at you.
"Why are you crying?" he asked.
You looked up at Bucky, who was staring at the child. Shock spread over his face as he realized the big blue eyes staring back at him were those of his own. You knelt down and opened your arms, Stephen running into them without hesitation.
"There's someone I think you should meet, honey," you told the small boy. "Stephen baby, this is...Bucky. He's...he's your dad."
Bucky could barely believe what he was hearing. He was trying so hard to contain his tears as he knelt down next to Stephen as well.
"Hey buddy," he said. "I hope you've been taking care of your mom while I was gone. I'm sorry I was away so long, but I'm back now."
Stephen just stared at Bucky for a long time. You had been telling him stories about his father ever since he was a baby, and showing him what few pictures you had of Bucky whenever he asked. He would always ask where his dad was, and you didn't have the heart to tell him his dad was dead, so you just told him that Bucky was away on a long trip and you weren't sure when he'd be back.
Finally, Stephen smiled and hugged Bucky. A tear managed to escape Bucky's eye as he hugged Stephen back.
"Hi daddy, I'm glad you're home," Stephen said. "Mommy's been very sad because you're not around. Are you happy now, mommy?"
You couldn't help but laugh. "I'm very happy, baby. Do you mind going and playing in your room while mommy and daddy talk?"
Stephen raced back to his room. You sat Bucky down on the couch and began to explain.
"I had no idea," you started, "when you went off to Wakanda and the Blip happened. A few weeks later I started throwing up and having massive headaches and such. I chalked it up to the Blip and how I felt over what happened to you. Then I started showing more signs and I missed my period, so I went to the doctor and sure enough, I was pregnant. I didn't know what to do for a long time, I didn't think I could have this baby without you. A constant reminder that you weren't around, a constant memory of what I had lost. On top of that, having to raise this child by myself and one day having to tell him that his dad was one of the victims of the Blip. But he was the last piece I had of you, I couldn't just let him go."
There was a long silence while Bucky let what you just told him digest. After a moment, he cupped your face with his hands and pulled you to him. He kissed you deeply and, for the first time in five years, you felt truly happy again.
"I love you so much," Bucky said, as he pulled away from the kiss. "I'm so sorry I left you, I promise I will never leave you again."
You smiled through the tears. "I love you, too, Bucky. I'm so happy to have you back."
Ugh I didn't like this as much as I did when I came up with the idea :/
