Clairaudience -Some Empaths have displayed the ability to not only feel emotions but also "hear" the heightened thoughts associated with those specific emotions. This is probably due to the fact that both cortices (emotional and mental) so closely relate to one another. An example would be if an empath senses two spouses aiming a lot of hatred towards one another. The empath might get the echo of thought along with that emotion (Ex. "I can't believe he's cheating on me after all these years"). However, this is not to be confused with telepathy. An Empath can only get visionary "echoes" related to certain emotions. They cannot read full memories but can retain glimpses into one's past and present. Valerie has displayed such abilities on multiple occurrences.
Clairempathy -More advanced users of empathy (like Valerie) have shown the ability to sense emotions over great distances such as cities, countries, continents, and into other dimensions and planes such as the Astral Plain or from the afterlife. While there are certainly limitations to how far someone of certain skills can hear, Valerie had demonstrated the power to hear emotions and experiences from centuries previous.
Clairvoyance -An Empath can forge an emotional connection with another being. If that connection stays opens, the Empath is able to sense when that person is in danger and is also able to locate them by their "emotional scent." It could also be used to sense/feel/detect spiritual or demonic beings as well as feel the amount of danger within or belonging to a specific place. Valerie has formed such connections with the likes of her past family (who are all deceased) and, more currently, people such as Charles Xavier, Jean Grey, Scott Summers, Ororo Munroe, and almost all of the students at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters so that she can know when they need her help.
Empathic Healing -This is an ability that is somewhat rare and not many can master. Empaths can easily heal emotional wounds, but channeling their power to such a high extent that it crosses from the mental plain and into the physical one, therefore healing physical wounds is extremely uncommon. There are reserves to this ability as when an Empath "heals" wounds that are too large or mortally damaging, they can only transfer the injury unto themselves. They also cannot heal people beyond a certain point of death. Valerie has described it as a soul crossing the threshold, and is therefore unable to provide any assistance past that point.
Empathic Illusion Casting -Empaths can create illusions based on certain emotions. Valerie has not used this particular ability often and opts to use her ability that converts emotions into energy.
Empathic Projection -Some Empaths can develop the ability to project their own emotions or falsely conceived and constructed emotions onto others. Valerie has used this ability many times when she wants to relate to others, show them her nightmares, or calm others.
Lie Detection -Empaths can sense when a person is lying to them, as lying can cause an irregularity in one's emotions. More skilled users can pick out the lie and find the truth. This power in particular makes her a very valuable member to the X-Men.
Psychometry -There are some places that have constant emotional residue (due to major events happening in that location such as war, massive death, historical moments, etc.). Some Empaths like Valerie are able to tap into those emotional imprints (lower level users that enter very strong places are involuntarily overwhelmed depending on their skill level) and re-experience those emotions as if they themselves were experiencing them. If skilled enough, some Empaths can also see the emotional echoes (images/residual ghosts) still there roaming. This would be due to high levels of concentrated emotional energy.
Telempathy -Empaths cannot only sense others emotions, but they can also send their own emotions unto others. Users can communicate with one another emotionally and if skilled enough send "echoes" (ie: it means a quick glimpse of an images and thoughts, e.g. sending the emotion of love to another user and the receiver seeing an image of their loved one like a mother, child, or spouse) of images back and forth.
Visual Empathy -Empaths can see the moods and emotions of others.
Empathic Energy Conversion - This is one of the abilities that Valerie uses most. She converts emotions into a physical state of being. Each emotion is triggered by a specific chemical reaction in the brain and she has the ability to channel it and use the strange energy it emits to her advantage (ie: flying, moving things without needing to lift a finger, etc.). In many ways, it resembles telekinesis. Except that her "telekinesis" will only work depending on the emotions around her. Stronger emotions give her more power and weaker emotions give her less. This is one of her most powerful abilities.
In conclusion, Valkyrie is an extremely dangerous Empath. One of the most powerful ever recorded (according to Charles Xavier, head and owner of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters).
