Michael was notoriously an awkward guy. He didn't know how the flirt. Hell, he could barely walk without tripping over nothing.
But what Michael did have was determination, and in video games, courage solved all problems. Video games and real life were basically the sane thing.
So, Michael thought, in a video game, what options would there be for Jeremy's NPC? He tried not to bump into the annoying hallway-goers. Well, probably..."You're hot." That's too forward. What about...a snazzy pick up line? "Are you the Sun? Because my life revolves around you." No, that's stupid. "Wanna be my Player 2?" Nah, Jeremy wouldn't get that. Think, Michael, think...I'll ask Rich. He's okay at flirting, right? I mean, he was with the stupid floppy disk controlling him. Maybe he kept that knowledge? Rich's ideas have gotten me this far, I guess I'll ask him.
Michael found Rich hanging out with Jake, Chloe, and Brooke. A gaggle of gays. "Rich, how the fuck do I flirt with a guy?" he asked.
"Rich is terrible at flirting," Jake said. "I'll give you advice." Jake put a hand on Michael's shoulder, guiding him away from the others. "Now, ths key to flirting is being suave. Mess up your hair a little bit, it never fails to make a guy look sexy. I would know. Rich looks great when his hair is messy."
Michael nodded awkwardly, he and Jake standing by the out of order water fountain. He had been spending so much time with Rich, he almost forgot how short he really was. Whoever the fuck the parents were that gave him his genetic code, he hated that they were (according to his height) short.
"Okay, when you walk up to him, do it with swagger. You have to look like a cool guy."
"Hey guys, what's hippin' and happenin'?" Michael found himself met with eyes the color that he had identified as Jeremy Blue.
"Jeremy! Nothing is...hippin' and happenin'. Not here. Nope." Okay, Michael didn't remember himself being that awkward.
"That was a stupid thing for me to say," Jeremy said. That was really stupid." Then he leaned in cloeser to Michael. "You get any closer to Rich?" He whispered, hopeful.
Michael wished he could answer truthfully. "Yeah...yeah I've been making great progress." Now was the time. Jake sent him a smirk. "Hey, do you wanna come to my place? Rich will be there and I just sort of wanted backup, y'know? In case he rejects me and I die on the spot." Michael added an awkward laugh for good measure.
"Yeah, sure," Jeremy agreed. "And you aren't gonna die, by the way." He caught the eye of someone across the lunch room. "Oh, I should say hey to Christine. We barely have any classes together."
"Shit. Christine," Michael muttered once Jeremy was out of earshot. "I forgot about fucking Christine. I'm gonna die, I'm gonna fucking die. Y'know what? I don't care anymore. I've accepted death. Come for me already. God, I hate love."
Jake put a hand on Michael's shoulder. "We all do."
