Zayn’s POV

There is no way. There is no way that the person we had just watched on the computer screen in our hotel was a living, breathing person. She didn’t just dance; she was the embodiment of her struggle. It was never said, never explicitly revealed, but you knew. You knew that there was a struggle, but there was never a word. It was strong, was powerful, was beautiful, and was such a statement unto itself that I'm sure that none of us breathed for the five minutes when she was on the screen. Even the other girls that were on the stage with her were good, but they weren’t the same as her. There was no... no desire. No carnal need to break free and run. They danced, and it was beautiful, but that was the extent of what they did.

I looked up, seeing the man from the scouting group watching us with amusement.

“So boys, what do you think about her?” he gazed around at us, Louis and Niall still watching the clips of her dancing that were on the computer. Liam gently but firmly closed the lid of the computer before sitting back into the chair and looking at the man. Niall ran off to the kitchenette that was on the other side of the main room, opening the fridge rummaging around.

“I think that it’s pretty clear that she’s the one.” The rest of us nodded our heads while he took the computer and opened it again, this time pulling up a different file whilst continuing to talk.

“If you think she’s good at ballet, she has her own dance crew. They are mostly a group of kids that came from the street or troubled backgrounds. Got a small grant from an organization that supports kids form troubled backgrounds and gives them something to do. This short film on them is from the last competition they went to, which happened in May of this year, where they came in second, after the well-established Dragonic crew. He pressed the play button and set it back down on the table where we could see it.

“Hey!” The entire group of eight called out in unison. The four boys were sitting behind the girls in a rough semi-circle around the interviewer. Two of the boys were in dark jeans and a black hoodie with red accents on the hood, shoulder and sides, the other two in white jeans and a loose white tank. The girls were similarly dressed, with half of them in dark blue or black ripped jeans and black ripped tank with a red long sleeve under it, and the other half in white jeans and tank. “We’re Thunder Rain and we’re from Calgary, Alberta!” The interviewer then introduced herself as Jacklyn, then got the group to tell a bit about themselves, starting with who they were, a random fact about them and what age they were.

The boys started, from right to left. “I’m Orion, 17 and uhh... I dunno. Jake you go first.” The girl that we had been watching rolled her eyes before leaning over and nudging one of the boys. “What? Fine. I’m Jake, 16 and everyone thinks I have the strangest sense of humor.” “I’m Izzack, 17 and I can trip over any surface what-so-ever. Including dance floors.” girl with bright orange hair gave a strangled laugh before trying to cut off her laughter and failing miserably. “Moving on...I’m Nico, 17 and...” he looked at the other member of the crew for help. The lead girl spoke for him “ he’s a complete, total and utter flirt.” She finished without breaking into laughter, but it was clear that she was trying quite hard not to. The orange air girl spoke next. Identifying herself as Amber, then the next was Izzy, who seemed to be most in control at the moment. Then it was a shy and quiet girl named Becky, who hadn’t said more than twenty words at a time. Then our girl. “I’m Kattia,” this was the first time we had heard her name, and I quite liked it. “17, and the leader of this motley collection of dancers.” They the boy named Jake that was standing right behind here gave him a playful shove, which she returned to him.

The interviewer continued questioning them, asking what role the members had in the crew. Kattia started off by calling Izzack the klutz, which made him call Nico the flirt, who added that Izzy was the “mom” of the group. Who in her defense called Orion the heavily sarcastic one, who said that Jake was the joker, who while running out of options, nominated Becky as the shy one, which left Kattia as the leader. The next few clips were of them at one of their practice sessions that must have occurred before the competition, where they were all moving together, as on entity made of eight people. Their coordination was perfect, and the symmetry was spot on. If this was only practice, I wondered what they’d look like during that competition. The video closed with them in the finishing trick, something that looked like a combination between and spin and a forward roll out of something that could only be described as a leap-frog kind of action. The clip fadeout to black. Again, Liam closed the computer making sure that we paid attention to the man there.
