Ava's Story

Chapter 12

Ava silently sits, trying to stop crying. She holds a minature orange turtle, a gift from Mikey. She presses it to her heart, remembering the times. They had spent so little time together, yet it strangley felt like a small forevor. Quoting The Fault in Our Stars, some infinities are bigger than others.

Something inturrupts her from her thoughts. She can feel the presence of someone else in the room.Suddenly, smoke fills the room, and firecrackers go off. Ava feels her heart sink.  They came. Of course they did. Shredder charges straight into the smoke, claws drawn. He shouts, realizing he missed. Dark smoke leaves it impossible to see. Ava feels the hands of someone grabbing her. In a start, she knows it is Mikey. Completely alone.

"Hey!" Mikey says with a smile.

Mikey unties her, and she stands up. He embraces her, and notices the wound on her face. Mikey's eyes turn dangerously ice blue.

"He did this to you?" Mikey asks, although he knows the answer.

"I'm fine."  Ava quickly says, but the dripping blood says the opposite.

At that time, the smoke began to clear. Shredder sees his target, and races toward Mikey. The two fight. The only advantage Mikey has is that he's quick and furious. Ava jumps up to help him, only Shredder pushes her away, slashing at her arm. She falls to the ground, cradling her arm.

This only made Mikey angrier, and he attacks Shedder with full force. Shredder actually falls for a second, than stands right back up. He grabs Mikey by the throat, and holds him so Ava can see. Her eyes go wide with fear and anger. A primal shriek escapes her lips. Without hesitating, she jumps onto Shredder's back and holds his throat.

"Drop. Him." Ava says, her voice strong and cold.

Shredder immediatly drops him. Mikey falls, and catches his breath. Ava kicks Shredder to the corner. He lies on the ground, briefly unconscious.

Ava grabs Mikey's shoulders.

"Mikey, do you love me?" She asks.

Mikey nods earnestly.

"Then go. Don't look back. Don't stop running. Don't come back for me. Just remember I love you."  Ava orders, giving Mikey a warm hug.

Mikey wants to stay, but somehow knows he needs to leave.

"Shredder! Come and face  your soldier.' She shouts, waking him.

Shredder unsheaths his claws.

"If I can't kill him, I'll just kill you." He says angrily.

"Put down those weapons. Do you want to proudly say you defeated a young, unarmed, wounded soldier?" Ava says sarcastically.

Shredder narrows his eyes. His pride is the most important thing to him, so he obeys and removes all his armor.

Ava uses the most dangerous kata she knows. One Leo taught her. Ava jabs her fist into his shoulder, trips him with her leg, and kicks him onto the glass. The force of his fall makes the glass break, plunging him into the water.

"And you put me at the bottom of the class." Ava says before silently slipping away.

Ava climbs down into the sewers. Leo was sitting on the couch, watching tv. His eyes widen.

"Your'e alive?" He aks in wonder.

Ava smiles.

"Where's Mikey?" She says, noticing he wasn't here.

"He's at Murakami's." Leo says, knowing Ava was going to want to see him.

Ava dashes out and runs to Murakami's as fast as her legs allow her. She walks into the shop, the little bell jingling. Mikey is sitting on the stool, talking to Murakami.

"I should have stayed with her." Mikey says sadly.

Ava grabs Mikey's shell and turns the stool to face her. Mikey gasps and hugs her. Without thinking, Mikey grabs the sides of her face and kisses her. Ava's mind suddenly goes blank. She decides to simply wrap her arms around Mikey's neck.

"Young love." Murakami says.

Ava pulls away for a second.

"How did he know that?"
