After Jim got of the phone with his mom the second time, he got of the mountain and waited for her arrival at Clair's side. Jim released a whine as he cradled the sick girl in his arms. Jim didn't want to tell Claire or anyone that he could smell emotions or in this case, Claire's sickening condition. The trolls minded there own business as far as it goes.
"Your mom better hurry! I can't hold it for much longer." Merlin yelled as he looked at him.
Over the past weeks Jim developed more trolling instincts. He felt overwhelming instincts to protect Claire from anyone or anything. He began to express how he is feeling with whines, whimpered, and even growling. The weirdest thing was building his nests... he would make a comfy space for him and Claire to sleep during the day.
And he wouldn't let anyone near the nest. Why? He didn't know. But it must be normal to the trolls because they wouldn't go near him when he and Claire where there. They respected it surprisingly well. Jim also began hunting rabbits and small rodents for Claire to eat since they lacked access to stores. But Claire didn't mind. She didn't mind any of his weird instincts.
It was Jim who did. He thought they where weird and embarrassing. But Claire understood. And she knew him well enough to know when he was mad or even angry or any other strange instinct he has. And he was great full that she understood and took the time to know him so well.
Jim was lost in thought and anxiety, he didn't realize his mom and Strickler coming through the portal. But when Claire let out a coughing noise, it snapped his right back into reality.
"Oh Jim!" His mom cried happily.
"Mom!" He didn't realize how home sick he was until he saw her. He gently, ever so gently guided Claire to the ground and stood to greet his mom.
She hugged him supper tight. If he was human she would have crushed his ribs. He let out a family greeting whine unconsciously. And slightly nuzzled her.
"Baby I missed you so much."
"Me to mom." He couldn't help but to let a tear run down his cheek. "But as much as I am happy to see you, Claire needs your help please."
"Of corse. Oh Claire honey!" She said kneeling down at Claire's side.
Jim didn't realize her huge medical bag with her.
"Claire when was the last time you drank something?" Barbra asked.
She weakly shrugged.
"Your super dehydrated. I am going to start and IV and get some fluids in you. You will be okay."
She pulled out a collapsible IV pole and began to hook Claire up to it. Jim watched worriedly.
It took several minutes. But finally when his mom was done she stood up.
"Jim has she been drinking water?" Jim shook his head.
"She refused when we offered."
"Okay. Well, she has almost gone through this whole bag. I may have to start another. But in the mean time, get some blankets. She needs her sleep." Jim nodded and went to his neat where him and Claire slept at. It was far away from everyone.
Once he gathered the blankets and laid them out for Claire to sleep on, he went to his mom.
"Will she be okay?" He asked.
"She will be fine. She was super dehydrated, but she will be fine."
Jim sighed in relief.
"Thank you for helping her." He said.
"Anything for you and Claire." She smiled.
