Kindergarten. Small children running around, chasing each other with small, plastic toy cars. Others playing with building blocks, girls sticking the small crayons into their mouths and munching on the colorful wax when the teacher looked away. Three young boys playing "firefighter" outside in the garden. Kenny was indoors, playing with a worn out toy train on the vibrant, numbered rug. He blew raspberries and chucked the train across the room, making an explosion gesture with his tiny arms. He got up and ran to retrieve it, but another blonde boy picked it up before he got the chance. Kenny furrowed his eyebrows, ready to start a fight with the other kid who dared touch his toy. That is, until the boy's small arm reached out, handing him the toy.
"Here ya go, fella!" The blonde boy smiled, one of his front teeth missing. Kenny stared at the kid, and took his train back. The other boy's hair was lighter than his, and he was wearing a Kermit the Frog shirt. Kenny looked down at his own clothes, which was just an oversized dirty parka and matching pants.
"Can I play with you? I got toys, too!" He showed some Hello Kitty figurines. Kenny took off his parka hood to show the amusement on his face. His eyes shyly went back to the other blonde, who still held a smile on his face.
"I wanna play with that one." Kenny pointed his gloved hand towards the Hello Kitty toy wearing a police uniform. The other boy nodded and handed it to him.
"Alrighty! Let's go play on the rug!" He took Kenny's hand and led him to the spot Kenny had been playing at alone. "I'm Butters." He said once they were both sitting, him on his knees and Kenny with his legs crossed.
"Butters is a weird name. I have a cooler one. Mine is Kenny."
Butters frowned, but nodded. "It's not my real one! My mommy and daddy call me it because they say I'm a wimp!"
"Oh." Kenny shrugged and looked down, he just wanted to play with Butters' cute kitty toys. They spent the rest of the school day playing together, just the two of them. None of them really cared about the fact that the toys were "girly" like the girls had pointed out, mostly out of jealousy. Kenny found the day go by faster than usual. Eventually, Butters' parents came to pick him up. The small blonde gathered his things and paused when he noticed Kenny still holding on to one of his figurines. Kenny didn't want to give it back, he really liked it. Butters frowned and reached for it, but stopped himself seconds after.
"Oh gee, uh, you can keep it if ya want, Kenny." Butters told him, his knuckles rubbing together. Kenny looked up hopefully.
"Can I really?!"
"Well sure, fella! We're friends now, so it's okay!" Butters waved and ran to his parents. Kenny sat there, his cheap, old train in one hand. And the police uniform Hello Kitty in the other. Friends. They were friends.
He made a friend.

Kenny, a rebellious 5th grader, was scribbling some inappropriate words in the boys' bathroom during recess. His tongue was out in concentration, and he chuckled evilly to himself.
"There ya are, Ken!" Butters called out, his familiar southern accent sounding louder because of the bathroom echo. Kenny rolled his eyes, not even a bit surprised since he was used to the cheerful blonde's loud voice.
"Come look at what I wrote, Butters." Kenny waved his hand and Butters slowly approached the open stall door and peeked inside. Kenny pointed at his masterpiece and held his head up high as if he had just finished a good deed. A yelp came out of the smaller blonde as he read the gruesome words, and he covered his mouth. Kenny laughed, expecting that exact reaction from his best friend.
"Let's go before we get caught." Kenny patted Butters' back and walked out of the bathroom, the other boy meekly following behind him. The two boys always hung out together. On Kenny's wrist was a friendship bracelet that Butters had made him two years ago. He never took it off. It was a bit worn out, but it was so well made that it still managed to cling to his wrist. Butters, on the other hand, also had a bracelet Kenny had made him in art class. Of course, it was sloppily made, but Butters shed a tear when Kenny handed it to him. Kenny apologized because it looked, "pretty shitty," but Butters loved it. However, he was scared it would fall off of his wrist, so he kept it in his pocket as a lucky charm.
