ALEX'S POV"Tonight is the night, Alex. We leave tonight. We don't look back. The bags are by the front door and whenever they go to sleep, we are gone. Got it?" My sister, Payton said.
My name is Alex and if you haven't guessed yet, me and my twin, well, we're running away. This is a blessing to us. Our parents are abusive and heavy alcoholics. The only downside is that we don't know where we're going to go. We contemplated telling our dad and going to live with him but that's option B.
I was about to answer her when I suddenly heard my stepfather boom from downstairs. "Get your asses down here! I'm bored and need a punching bag! NOW!" He sounded really angry. They were supposed to be asleep already. What happened? I looked at Payton unsure of we should go downstairs or just leave.
"Let's go and look at me" she grabbed my face in her hands and connected our foreheads so that we are looking at each other in the eyes. "I love you and whatever happens, when you see an opening, run. " As I was about to protest she put one of her hands on my chest. "The other will meet up at with them at the park on 44th right?" I stared at her for a while then hesitantly nodded.
We hesitantly walk down the steps and into the living room. Knowing that's where he's at.
When we reached there, I was stopped by a punch to my stomach by my mother while Payton was grabbed by her hair.
I watched feeling helpless as my twin sister was pushed against the wall by my stepfather's hand. I try to get up and help her as I watch her breathing get shallow and her face turning purple. Although my attempt was cut short by my mother's foot colliding with my ribs.
Even though all of this I knew, he had to let go, or his,'boredom' will kill her. Tears started falling down Payton's face as she realized the same thing I did. She slightly shook her head and with a shaking form, she mouthed the one word that changed my life forever. The very last word I saw her mouth. I wanted to protest this word but I knew it was useless. I had to listen.
She mouthed go. I listened.
And that was the last time I saw my twins face.
