Chapter Two-Young Masters

I feel nervous for some reason. Maybe because of that kid, Langris, eyeing me like an exotic beetle.

"This girl is Mirari," Master Vaude said. "She will now personally assist you. Ask her for anything,"

Huh? I never was asked for this? Why me? Why not some older maiden? Is this secretly a punishment?

"As for you, there is a room set up for you two doors down from Finral's. Finral, please show her the way,"

Some sort of nasty room fit for the dungeon I suppose. I know Master Vaude doesn't really like me. Is this a trap and a way to lock me up?

"Yes, father!" Finral said and Master Vaude left to leave us to sort ourselves out.

"A room for myself? So I won't need to share with Mina anymore?" It made me feel kind of scared that I'm now on my own.

"You had to sleep in the same room with someone?" Langris looked disgusted. I nodded, suddenly feeling ashamed. I'm being stuck with two boys who'll probably work and slave me. Nobles never go easy on us. Don't complain, don't cry, or you'll be thrown out. They've let me stay for a year now, don't abuse the opportunity to live in a manor.

Finral came to my rescue. "Yeah, most of the servants and maids share rooms. Plus Mirari was found by Mina and raised by her, so Mina is basically her mother. I think a child and mother should be together, even though my mom didn't. But all other kids should. Right?"

I paused. Why was he defending me? Finral might be actually not that bad.

"Well, I guess that's okay," Langris calmed down. "Sharing rooms helps conserve space. That's logical-"

"I don't think we officially met but I think you remember that my name is Finral. Do you?"

"Umm...yeah-"

"You didn't remember anything when we first met like your memory was all wiped. Do you forget easily? My name is Finral and yours is Mirari,"

"I'm actually really good at remembering-"

"How old are you?"

"I'm six-"

"Langris is six too! Maybe you can be his first friend. You can be my friend too!"

He's not bad but he's talking non-stop.

"Quit acting like you know my mind, Ni-san..."

"Okay, let's be friends!" Finral held out his hand. I shyly took it. "Okay,"

"Langris, be friends too!" Without asking for his brother's consent, Finral grabbed Langris's hand into mind. The younger brother looked like he was going to barf, holding hand with a maid but the hand stayed.

...

"This way!" Finral eagerly skipped down the hall, towing me and Langris behind. We passed by elegantly carved wooden doors and ornate artifacts all around.

"I've never been to this side of the manor before..." my gazed passed over a rather fine mirror. The framing had the slightest bit of rust.

"You were originally assigned to the east side, where we hold most of our sleeping quarters for maids and servants. This is the west side, where we primary live. It's a privilege to live here or even walk in it," Langris lectured.

I looked back at the corner. Two left, one right, two more lefts, I memorized so I can know the way next time. Or maybe to run back to Mina, if everything turns out to be horrible.

"Here we are," Finral stopped at a door. "Your room," he opened the door and I nervously peeked inside.

It wasn't the prison-like room I expected. The room was pristine clean. A large bed, perhaps big enough for both Mina and me to sleep side by side in comfort occupied the center of the room.  Two large windows let in dazzling sunlight with velvety red curtains tied to the side. A nightstand and a dresser completed the room.

"It's a guest room we have to spare," Langris said. "I hope it suits you,"

I shook my head. "I don't deserve this kind of room..."

"Yeah, you don't" Langris agreed.

"Can't you be nice?" Finral shoved his brother. "She's going to be helping us. If you keep acting to be rude, she'll be more reluctant to help you,"

"Or, she'll simply be taken out of the manor and fend for herself," Langris replied coldly. A shudder went down me. So this is a test to see if I can remain a permanent resident at the mansion. What if they kick me out? Can I survive on my own?

"Look Mirari, this is my room!" Finral pointed at another oak door. "If you need help, ask me here. Or if I need you,"

"My room is across from here. I'll probably be doing homework so don't bug me," Langris told me.

I nodded. I think I like talking with Finral. Langris...I don't like how he's only seeing me as a servent. However, it's not as bad as I thought. I think I'll be okay.

A/N

Short chapter again, I think this story would consist of short chapters but there will be a lot of them.  Mirari is a harder character to write the thoughts of, being mostly quiet and shy compared to my other O.C. You'll think that'll make things easier since that's literally me, personally. I'm a shy potato who likes simply being behind the scene and not push the limit (I guess that I made my other O.C on the exact opposite of me). But writing a shy character, basically putting myself into the story, makes me feel very bashful for some reason. Sorry for slow updates and small chapters. I hope you understand.
