The only source of light in my room when I awake is the dimly lit screen of my phone, vibrating furiously through the wood of my bedside table.
I groan in annoyance, remaining still with my eyes shut as if ignoring the hideous noise will make it stop
But it doesn't.
"Faaaaaaaaaaark." I sit up, fumbling around and almost dropping my phone before swiping the screen and holding it up to my ear. I don't even bother checking the caller ID.
"I don't know who you are, but I will find you. And I'll kill you."
I hear Elenna giggling through the line, a sound that would usually be contagious, except that the sun clearly isn't up yet and I'd rather be snoring than laughing.
"Well I guess I won't tell you that it's Elenna calling and I wanted to tell you to get your ass down to the corner cafe because then you'll know who I am and where I am and you'll probably kill me."
I feel my features distort into an are-you-fkn-serious face, and I almost laugh into the phone as I stare into the darkness flooding the room through thin curtains.
"It's still dark out, you idiot. What makes you think I'm gonna get up at stupid o'clock and get coffee?" I fall back onto my pillow, sighing.
"What are you talking about, idiot?" she asks, using my words against me. "It's ten."
I literally roll off my bed, landing with a thud that earns a laugh from Elenna, and continue to roll towards my window. I will myself off of the ground and peel back a layer of fabric from the glass, staring through the waterlogged window and into the blackened sky.
My attention is bought to the sound of rain falling softly on the roof, small spots of water picking at the window and sliding across the glass gently.
"Oh." No wonder it's still dark out.
"Anyway, I'll see you in ten."
I'm not given a chance to protest as Elenna hangs up, leaving me to listen the repetetive beeping of the dial tone. Another groan escapes my lips as I haul myself over to my closet, tearing out the first outfit my hands discover.
A black t-shirt and pastel blue skater skirt. Although it's raining outside, the summer air is still warm. I have no effort to shower; once a day is enough for me. I keep my hair in the messy bun I've had it in overnight, tousled but good enough for me.
I adorn purple socks beneath white converse. Well, not exactly purple; one red and one blue. Odd, just like me.
By the time I reach the cafe the rain has eased up, and I manage to make it through the doors without getting my shoes too waterlogged. The familiar sound of the small bell above me tingling as I enter fills my ears and I look up to find Elenna motioning me over to a small booth in the back of the small business.
I tread lightly as I walk towards them, being careful as to not leave soggy footprints all over the place. I take a seat beside Jason, who also happens to be here.
And Maddi, and Ashton, who arrives back at the booth and places a classic tea in front of me as he takes a seat beside me. In fact, everyone is here.
Except for Harry.
I thank Ashton quickly, bringing the cup to my lips and taking a small sip. I sit the cup back on the table, and as I look up, everyone is looking at me expectantly.
"Is there something you wanted to tell us?" I look to Elenna, who's grinning knowingly from ear to ear. I shoot her a glance, catching on to what she's saying.
"We hear little Auds has a crush!" Maddi smirks at me, and I reach over and swat her arm playfully. I feel a warm blush creeping onto my face and I bow my head to prevent the others from seeing it.
I stare coldy at Elenna as she smirks. It's not that I don't trust the others, I mean, I'd have told them eventually. They're not judgemental like most.
But I still feel the embarrassment.
"Why didn't you tell us? It's adorable!" I giggle at Ashton's words, possibly turning even redder at his comment.
"I was... I was getting there, but... I don't know, I guess I'm still working this out myself."
Jason catches my face, prodding at my cheeks.
"Aw, little Auds is blushing because we know."
"Stop calling me little!" I swat his hand away from my cheek, trying to change the subject, partially seriously yet mostly humorously. I hate being short.
Ashton wraps his arm around my shoulder. "Aw, little Auds is in love with Harry."
