I grabbed a peanut butter sandwich from my bag and took a bite as I scanned the lunchroom with my new glasses, all of the students in the rooms information popping up on the lenses. Everyone was sitting at tables with their friends, they all had a place. Except me, who was cast aside without a second thought, to which the only acknowledgements from others were weird glares.
My eyes fell to a table with 3 people sitting at it. Peter, my weird lab partner, a boy sitting across from Peter chatting away to him and a girl who sat quite a distance from them reading a book silently. I didn't have time to look away before the boy had noticed I was watching them, he turned back to Peter, said a few words and before I knew it, was walking towards me with Peter still sitting at the table with a look of betrayal. The boy walked up to my table and waved with a big grin on his face. "Hi I'm Ned, you are the new girl, right?" "Yes, that's me" I said with a smile. "I'm y/n" "oh I know who you are" he said with a smirk forming on his face "Peter told me about you being his lab partner" I looked at Ned slightly confused, why would Peter want to tell Ned about me when he barely wanted to talk to me in class? "Oh okay" I replied. "I saw you looking lonely over here and I was uh... wondering if you wanted to come sit with me and Peter?" My face lit up. This was my chance to finally make friends, so far Peter hadn't made a great impression but Ned seemed like a really nice person. I smiled warmly at him. "Sure, that would be great" I packed up my things and walked with him over to the the table.
"Hi Peter" I whispered as I sat down. "Uh... hey" he gave an awkward smile, in a cute kind of way. "I, um, didn't know you had glasses" I silently scolded myself for not thinking about the fact that I wasn't wearing glasses at all for the past two days, and now I just magically have them, luckily, from the outside no one can see the information popping up on the lenses. "Oh! Right, yeah I do" I faked a chuckle. I looked to my side to the girl also sitting at the table, squinting to read the title of the book. "Are you reading 'Of Human Bondage'!?" I exclaimed excitedly, having read the book at least 5 times. The girl slowly looked up from her book, a blank look covering her face. "Yeah" she answered unamused. "I love that book!" The corner of the girls mouth slightly rose. "That's Michelle Jones" Ned explained. "You can just call me MJ though" "cool, I'm Y/n" "nice to meet you, Y/n" "you too" I smiled, and with a matter of seconds MJ's face was buried back into her book.
"So where are you from?" Ned asked. I remembered my cover story, not having to use it yet since no one had talked to me. "oh uh, Chicago, I moved here with my dad" "nice" Ned gave me a thumbs up while Peter just stared at me, a little smirk on his lips, his deep brown eyes distracting me from everything around us. I skimmed across the 3 people sitting in front of me, for the first time out of the 3 days I have been at school, I actually believed I might like it here.
I walked into my Dads lab after school with a smile plastered on my face. He smirked "what are you so happy about" I was basically jumping with joy at this point. "Oh you know, just the fact that I actually made friends today" my dads grin grew wider as he pulled me in for a hug. "I'm so proud of you honey" he exclaimed. We disbanded from the hug and my dad sat down on his stool and started taking sips of his coffee.
"What are there names?" He asked. I thought for a second, letting the names rush back into my head. "There's Michelle Jones, but her friends just call her MJ, she's very dark and mysterious but its quite interesting, then there's Ned Leeds, he's super sweet and funny, and then..." I trailed off, thinking about my new lab partner, he was hard to explain, Peter seemed like a bit of a jerk when I first met him in class, but at lunch he just seemed like an innocent, awkward dork. My dad nodded as a sign to continue. "There's Peter, Peter Parker-" my dad spat out his coffee, spilling it all over the table. "Ew!" I screamed. "What was that for?!" My dad quickly propped himself back up and put his coffee mug down. "Oh- um- nothing I just- er- choked on my coffee for no reason at all" I nodded slowly, not buying his reasoning one bit. "Okay... well, I'm going to go watch a movie with Steve now... bye dad..." "bye" my dad quickly replied.
As soon as I had walked out of the lab I double tapped my earpiece. "Hey, Rose?" "Yes miss Stark" my AI responded. "Are there any files on Peter Parker on my dads drive?" I asked, trying to keep my voice down. "No, there are no files on Peter Parker on your fathers common drive" "common drive?" I questioned to myself. "That must mean he has other drives" "that is correct miss Stark" "can you look in them?" "I'm afraid not, I am not able to access these drives" "hm... interesting" I whispered as I stroked my invisible beard.
