Piper POV

"Hello?"

"How are you?"

"Oh hi mom, I'm good."

"I was wondering I was planning a dinner party and was wondering if Luke wanted to come?"

"I'd have to see, when is it?"

"Possibly next weekend, I'm trying to plan it so that Kathrine can come." I hold back the urge to groan. Kathrine is my cousin she's a year older than me and everyone in the family adores her. She's the picture-perfect girl and then there's.. well me.

"Oh, you don't say," I mumble as I go into the kitchen to get some food. "I know you don't like her but that's all in the past! She's going to be home for a bit before she does study abroad in France and I was thinking it would be a sort of going away party."

"Why are you hosting it though? Isn't that Aunt Gerri's job?" I ask confused. "Were planning it together and our house has the most space, c'mon Piper it will be fun."

"You had just said it was a dinner party not a going away party for someone I don't like, not to mention in my house." I hear the front door open and crane my neck to see my boyfriend walking in. "Piper don't be like that is.. so is that  a yes?" I sigh deeply. "I'll call you back and let you know, Luke just got home," I say as he enters the kitchen. "Okay, tell him I said hi!" I nod and hang up the phone. "What is it?" He asks."My mom is having a going-away party for my cousin, she's going to France apparently." I roll my eyes. "Are you jealous?" Luke says noticing my expression. "She's the favorite in the family, the girl could do no wrong, then there's um me." I shrug half-heartedly.

"I think you're pretty great." He says wrapping his arms around me and resting his chin on my head. "Thanks, also your head on mine still hurts."

"Oh sorry." He says lifting his head up. "Any way you want to be my date for this thing?"

"When is it?" Luke asks letting go of me so he can get his phone out his pocket.

"Saturday."

"What time?" He glances at me and then the screen.

"Eh seven why?"

"My mom is  flying out on Friday and I was wondering if you wanted to get dinner or something." He says getting a glass down from the cabinet. "How long will she  be in town?"

"For a week,"

"Don't you have classes Monday?" I ask. "Yeah but my mom knows I told her to wait until spring break but oh well."

"I'd love to get dinner though."  He nods getting some water and going into the living room.  "Maybe my mom would want to go to that dinner thing,  and if not I will for sure be your date."

"Thanks."

"Anytime."

*Saturday*

I wake up and hear Luke's already up, but it's a Saturday before nine." I blink and check my phone and see a text from my mom asking for me to help prep for tonight. I groan and get out of bed and slide one of his flannels on before I go into the kitchen where I find him scrolling through a cooking website and there are pans everywhere. "Everything okay?"

"My mom  is   coming over, I said I'd make breakfast until I realized the last time I made pancakes I was seven." His blue eyes look nervous. "Oh, the waffle mix we have is pretty easy." I open the cabinet and climb the counter so I can get the box down. "This stuff." I hand it to him and watch him read the back. "Okay.. do we have bacon?"
