Chapter 27 We try out dating

Luke POV

I'm going on a date with Piper and I can't believe it. "Ashton, what do I wear?"

"It's Piper why are you freaking out?"

"Cause we are going on a real date." I pace my room and check the clock knowing she'll be home soon. "Well, you're going to a restaurant right?"

"Yeah," I open my closet and hold my phone with my shoulder as I pull out a shirt. "I want to look a little nicer than normal so like a button-up shirt?"

"Yeah, is she home yet?"

"No, she's studying and will be home in an hour."

"Well, you have time to get ready, and don't worry it's Piper be cool," Ashton assures me.   "Your right, I'm going to get dressed but I'll call you after." 

"K I may not answer because I'm trying to puppy proof the apartment." I laugh. "Oh is being a dog parent harder than you thought?" I laugh. 

"A bit but Calum is thrilled to have a puppy so I don't really care."  

"Toby is quite the handful," I say. Ashton sighs. "You're telling me." I hear a crash in the background. "I gotta go," Ash says and the line goes dead.

I nervously fumble trying to put my contacts in and stab my eye. I groan and try again and succeed as I hear the door open. "Hey I'm going to get dressed," Piper says dropping her backpack by the door. "Okay, I'll be doing the same thing." I laugh nervously and go back into my room and get dressed. 

"You look stunning," Piper looks down at the floor a small smile on her face. "Thanks, you do too."

"Oh hang on!" I go back into my room to get the bouquet of flowers off my desk. "I'm in the living room!" Piper calls. I follow her voice and try to calm down a little. She looks up from her phone and gasps. "I um got you flowers." I hold out the bouquet. "You remembered my favorite flower?!" She gasps. "Yeah, I also um got my car washed so... that was so dumb of me to say I just wanted my car to look nice." I can feel myself blushing. "Luke." She smiles really big. "I'm going to put these in the kitchen okay?"

"S- sure." I curse when she leaves the room at how nervous I am but this is a big moment for us.

"You keep blushing and it's so cute," Piper says smiling. "No, I'm not." I look down at the table trying to hide my bashful smile. "What took us to long to do this?" She asks sipping her drink. "Fear?" I add. "Agree, say you want to split some chocolate cake?" She asks looking at the menu. 

"Is that even a question?"

"Hey, Pip?"

"Yes?"

"Can you hold this?" She looks confused

"Uh Luke this is your hand.. oh" She rolls her eyes before taking my hand in hers and intertwining our fingers as we walk out to the parking lot. 

"Successful first date?" I ask. 

"Yep, you're good at this whole boyfriend thing... so far." She says. "Your waiting for me to not be the ideal boyfriend?" I raise an eyebrow and let go of her hand to unlock the door." "No I'm just saying your super caring, but I already knew that." She says getting into the car. "I just don't want anything to happen to you." I shrug getting in the car. "I know... do your friends know we're dating?"

"Yeah um is that okay?" My voice sounds nervous. "Yeah it's fine I was just wondering." She shuts the car door and looks over at me. 

"What? Is it my hair?"

"No, I'm just thinking."

"About?"

"Tonight, we actually went on a date."  I nod turning the key in the ignition. "We did."

"It was better than my date with Nick, that's for sure."

"And mine with Annabelle," I reply and shiver at the memory.  We listen to the radio on the drive home both of us still on cloud nine about how the night went. 

"Are you going to sleep in your own room now that we're together or?" 

"Do you want me to?" I ask leaning in the doorway of her room. She sits cross-legged on her bed her head tilted to the side. "I mean, I wouldn't mind if you didn't."   "I need to finish some homework and then I'll be in." She nods getting a book off her nightstand and begins reading.  I get my phone off the counter and see a text from Ashton asking how our date went, which just makes me smile at my phone as I quickly text him back.  "What book are you reading?" I ask getting into bed next to Piper. "Just something for school." She shrugs setting it on the nightstand and rolling over to face me."I can call you my boyfriend now... that's weird." Piper says moving closer to me. "I know right?" I laugh a little as she looks at me and feel my cheeks getting red. 

"Stop blushing!"

"What you're cute." She rolls her eyes a content sigh escaping her lips. "So your parents know about us?"

"Yes, and your friends obviously do," she says. "Yep." She's quiet. "I can't wait to go back home with you and show you off to the rest of my friends, it feels so nice to be happy in a relationship for once." I look down and see she's asleep on my shoulder and smile. "Guess I'm just talking to myself huh pipsqueak," I say softly reaching over her to cut off the lights.
