Eric's Perspective 4 Months in
It had been too long here. Any time is too long here. I've seen boys die before they can live. They tell you a life for a life but they never told you that the owners of those lives may have not wanted to barter. I came here determined to stay myself, but it's hard when they destroy all the "soft spots" you possess. The "soft spots" of compassion, mercy, kindness, basically anything that makes you human they eliminate. I am not so much a man as a machine. Programmed to kill with no hesitation or regrets. But I will not be their killing machine, sacrificing myself up for a cause that I don't believe in. I must say strong for Rhea and our family. I took a deep breath and started another letter and immediately started with the time remaining. It was a low today. That I wouldn't be stuck in this Hell for forever. I had to come back to Rhea. Her smile was my sun, giving life and lighting up my dark world. It is enough to keep me sane, right, it has to be.
