As everyone trudged into their classroom, Ethan was among the last. Every classroom he walked by, but didn't go into, there were whispers of "yes!" from multiple people.

He didn't care, and eventually stopped at classroom 104. He threw himself into a random seat in the back, the only one left being beside him. Then one of the biggest snobs in the school, Angelina Thompson, burst in. "Eww!" she muttered in disgust. "Someone move here! I want to actually, y'know, make it out of this classroom alive!"

Ethan glared over her way, but didn't really say anything. After a minute someone stood up. "Okay," Alex simply answered.

She gathered her stuff and sat next to Ethan, as if it was nothing. Shocked faces all around. Angelina stifled a giggle. "Thanks!" she said, sounding back on duty to her normal attitude even more than she was earlier. Alex shrugged.

Then the teacher walked in, saw Ethan, trembling, as she made it over to her desk, stuttering, "H-Hi c-class....t-there's b-b-been a s-slight change of p-plans today...s-so instead of t-t-testing, y-you all c-can just talk or r-r-read.."

Everyone cheered, the classroom loud. After a couple of minutes, Alex was still sitting in her chair, bored, now isolated from her friends by a stuck-up snob.

She glanced over at Ethan and mumbled, "Hi." His head turned towards her. "Hm..?" he replied, slightly uncomfortable as no one had even politely said hi to him for as long as he could remember.

"Oh, I uh..I just said hi.." she replied, looking off, her eyes still covered. "Oh, uh..hi I guess..?" They sat there for a moment in awkward silence.

Alex looked as though she was thinking, and after a moment you could tell her eyes brightened from her expression, even though hey weren't showing.

"Ethan Roberts, right?" she asked. He nodded. "Yep, that's me, the invisible one who's younger brother is the one running my life." he said, flat-toned, but held in a laugh.
She nodded, quiet for a second. "Alex," she said.

Then she smiled at him.
