George lay in the darkness, thinking about what they had shared. From the moment he had entered her to the time they climaxed together, she had held his gaze. He saw the love and trust she held in him. He felt her need to know he still loved her. He was deeply saddened and disturbed by the scratches and bruises that covered her beautiful body. It told him more about what Tom had done than her words had, yet she still wanted him. She still needed him, probably even more than ever.
Afterwards she had sobbed into his arms, relieved that she had, as she described, 'laid some of the ghosts to rest.' He hadn't really known how to react to that! So, at a loss, he simply held her and waited for her to be calm again. Thankfully that had been the right thing. Once quiet, she had thanked him and told him how much she loved him. After that she had fallen asleep, warm and naked beside him. He looked down at her, she still clung to him, even though she appeared so deeply asleep. He kissed her softly on the forehead and then fell asleep himself.
The following morning, Alice woke up feeling slightly disorientated. She couldn't work out where she was.
"Morning sweetheart," George said, coming into the room with breakfast for them both "Everything OK?"
She smiled up at him, relief showing on her face. "I couldn't remember where I am." she confessed, "It scared me for a moment. Am I very pleased to see you!"
He smiled and gave her a reassuring kiss. "I'm always going to be here with you Alice Harrison," he told her softly, "I'm not letting you out of my sight for a while!"
"Good!"
He climbed into bed beside her and they had breakfast together.
"George love," said Alice suddenly, "The girls. I've completely forgotten about them! Where are they? Are thy OK?"
"They're fine," he assured her.
"Who are they with?"
He grinned at her. "You'll never believe it but they're with Paul."
"Paul? Who's Paul?"
"The girls," he told her, "They're with Paul and Linda McCartney."
"How?" Alice was astonished. Although it had been almost ten years since the end of The Beatles, the two men had onlly recently begun to rebuild their once strong close friendship. "How did the McCartney's end up with the girls?"
"He rang after the whole story hit the news." he told her, "He asked if he could help in any way. I didn't want to go up to Liverpool, your mum was ill so I took them up on the offer. I spent several hours with them at first but our three got on like a house on fire with his three girls. I rang before I left and they were loving it."
"Do they know anything of what's happened?"
"They know Alex is poorly and that you're with him. I told them you wanted me to be with you as well," He shrugged. "I had no idea what else to tell them at that point, mainly because I didn't know!"
"Can I ring them? See if they're OK?"
"I don't see why not."
George dialled the number and the line connected. He spoke briefly with Paul then Alice came to the phone. She had a few words with both Paul and Linda then spoke with the girls. She hung up the phone looking at lot happier.
"Feeling better?" George asked, kissing her on the forehead and giving her a hug.
She nodded.
"Shall we head up to the hospital then? See how Alex is?"
Again she nodded but then hesitated. George saw her. "Alice?" What is it?" He walked over to her and took her hand. "Talk to me!"
She looked up at him, her eyes searching. "George, I have to ask you something."
"OK."
"Last night. We made love. Did I..." she paused and took a dep breathe. "Did I...well..did I feel OK? Was I..." she hung her head, unable to carry on.
"What do you mean?" He was aghast! "Did you feel OK? Alice, last night was like every time we've made love! It was warm, passionate and very wonderful. You felt me cum, as I did you. That's should be all the indication you need!"
Alice still wouldn't look at him.It worried him deeply.
"Alice, please love. I don't understand. Why did you feel the need to ask me that question?"
"I just needed to be sure," she admitted in a soft whisper, "I was scared that after Tom, things could have been different. I didn't want them to be."
"Were they different for you?" he asked her gently, " I didn't hurt you did I?"
She shook her head.
"Then....?"
"It was something Tom said," she blurted suddenly, "he said my muscles inside were too slack, that no man would feel anything with me! After four children. He said that you must be going somewhere else for a decent shag!"
George looked at her, bewildered, as tears filled her eyes.
"Oh Alice Harrison, what does Tom Donovan know about love? Seriously? He's an animal!" He pulled her into his arms. "Be assured my darling that you are all the woman I need! You have given me the most amazing love making since our first time, years ago baby. I promise you that. As for changing after four children, they are the most beautiful children any man could wish for. We made them Alice. Me and You, when we shared our love. They're ours! I don't want or need anyone except you my love. Only you!"
She looked up at him, "You promise?" She pleaded, "Even after what happened with Tom?"
"I promise. Even after what happened with Tom. I feel priviledged that you have let me shared so much with you, especially after what Tom did." He kissed her passionatly. "Right, no more of this fear and worry Alice. I love you. Now, lets go and visit our son!"
He held out his hand to her. She gave him a soft smile and took it. Just as they reached the door, someone knocked. George cautiously opened it, hoping it wasn't anyone from the press.
"Mr Harrison? My name is Detective Inspector Dawson." He showed him his identity card."I'm here to speak to Mrs Harrison about recent events."
George opened the door. "We were just about to go to visit our son at the hospital." He told him, "Can't it wait until later?"
"I'm afraind not. Please sir, we really do need to talk to your wife."
Reluctantly George let them in and led them into the living room. Alice looked nervous. She explained once more what had happened. For some reason hse didn't understand, the detective was particularly interested in what happened from when Alex was shot. Again and again she explained the events.
"Look," Alice was frustrated, "I really want to go and see my son! Why do I keep needing to answer the same questions over and over."
The detective looked at her. "Mrs Harrison, are you aware the Thomas Donovan is in a serious condition?"
She shook her head. "I've been focussed on my son. He's now in a coma and has need two lots of emergency surgery. Why?"
"Mrs Harrison, Thomas Donovon made a brief statement yesterday evening." The detective told her. "He admits several of the things you accuse him of."
"GOOD!"
"However Mrs Harrison, he also claims that it was YOU who fired the gun shot that has hospitalised him. In revenge for him accidentally shooting your son and focibly assaulting yourself!"
Alice looked from the detective to George in stunned disbelief.
"No! No! NO! He's lying! He shot himself whilst I was helping Alexander!"
"So Mrs Harrison, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to come and make a formal statement. I also need to read you your rights and tell you that charges maybe brought against you!"
