What We Keep Hidden (Jai Brooks- Ariana Grande)

When things started to change.

Ariana sat on the edge, lazily dangling her feet in the water, while Jai stood behind her, drying off with a towel. Suddenly, Luke shot out of the water like a dolphin and whipped his head around, splashing them with the pound of water held in his curly hair. Unlike his brother, he refused to get a haircut.

"Jeez, Luke! What'd you do that for?", Ariana shrieked as she tried to shield herself from the blast of cold water.

Luke was laughing uncontrollably as he lifted himself out of the pool to plop down next to her. "So I could see the look on your face. That's a classic, man."

"Very funny and I'm not a man", she retorted and then quickly slid into the water to get away from her irritating friend.

"Oooo, you got her good, dude!", Jai shouted childishly. Luckily for Jai, he had still been holding the towel in his hand when the spray attack occurred and he was able to hide behind it, so he didn't get wet.

Luke was watching Ariana as she swam to the other side of the pool, got out and walked toward the diving board. "You know, Jai", he commented with his eye firmly fixed on his female friend, "she's right."

Jai sat down next to his twin and asked, "About what?"

Very seriously, Luke observed, "She most definitely is not a man."

"Uh?"

"Take a look, man. Ari's gettin' a bod'."

They both silently watched her as she slowly climbed up the steps and walked to the end of the diving board. She was wearing a pale pink (the only type of pink she liked) strapless bikini which along with her curly brown hair and beautifully tanned skin made her quite a site to behold. The bikini top was held together with what looked to be a knot between breasts that were just reaching the bloom of womanhood. The bottom of the suit was slung very low on her hips and accented with matching knots on either hip. Jai swallowed slowly and looked over at Luke.

"Has she been wearing that all day?"

"No Jai, she snuck into the house when we weren't lookin' and changed", Luke said sarcastically. "She's been looking like that for a while now. You just haven't noticed."

Jai looked back toward the diving board when he heard a splash, but she was already in the water.

"And you noticed?"

"Oh, yeah. I noticed." At that, Luke hopped up and announced, "I'm going in for snacks. You want?"

Jai was distracted by watching for Ariana to resurface. "Uh, oh yeah. Whatever you're havin'. Hasn't she been down too long?"

"Ariana? She's like a fish; you know that." Luke turned and walked off without a care.

Jai, truly worried now, stood and started trying to see if he could spot her in the deep end.

Just when he was ready to dive in and swim to the rescue, Ariana's head surfaced and she swam over to where Jai was still sitting. She came right up to the side and propped her elbows up on the side of the pool.

"Hi, where's Luke?", she asked breathlessly and completely oblivious to the recent turmoil she was causing her friend.

"Oh, he went in to get some snacks."

"Nonna's inside", Ariana told him, referring to her grandmother. "She loves Luke, so she'll give him the world."

"So, Ari... I was wondering, you know, if you were going to the school dance next week? It's the last one this year."
