I stood awkwardly in front of the massive wooden bookshelf Adam guided me too.
Our heated discussion 5 minutes ago didn't turn out as expected. I had calmed down since then and began to process things and breath a little more slowly. I was still pissed about the whole 'going to high school' sort of thing but there wasn't much I could do. The possibility of me being in danger meant I had to follow exactly what they said. But I still wouldn't go down without a fight. I had argued, disagreed, fought and cried until Adam reminded me of the country and our parents and pulled me back to my senses.
He stood beside me, waiting for a reaction to make its way onto my face.
I turned on my heel to Adam, puzzled. "And this..." I stopped to think. " This bookshelf leads to where again?" I questioned pointing towards the rows and rows of magnificent books.
He sighed, exhausted from my dramatics and began to explain once again. "This will lead you to where you will be trained. Some days I will be training you and other days you'll have a different teacher." I nodded, slowly comprehending. "So are you ready?" He asked, leaning up against the bookshelf.
"Yeah, I guess." I answered staring at the huge bookshelf that rose up high than I thought possible.
I had faith that over the period of time I hadn't seen my brother he hadn't gone insane but I began to question his sanity when laid a hand over a book sitting at my height. It was Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, my eyes lit up, my all time favourite book.
He turned to me, signalling me to watch. I raised an eyebrow, still beginning to think he was insane as he slightly tilted the book back. Adam released the book from his grip and threw the other arm in front of me, pushing me out of the way. The wooden bookshelf swung open towards us to reveal a long steel corridor, sloping downwards.
It's official. This house was weird.
Adam looked towards me with glee in his eyes. He looked at the hall like it was his baby.
"Impressive, Adam." I complimented, approving of the secret door.
The corridor was long, narrow and made entirely of steel. Adam stepped in first, I followed in suit, ducking my head a little upon entering the hall. My thoughts were occupied, wondering how the books on the shelf didn't fall out when it swung. I'll ask Adam later, I thought.
We began to walk down silently, our shoes echoing all the way through the hall. It was like being in a room full of white, except grey and steel. There was nothing else to see, like an optical illusion.
We finally made it to a set of stairs. I clutched the rail as we made our way up and were greeted by glass doors.
Adam pushed them open with force and we stepped inside the huge futuristic-like room.
My eyes widened at the sight in front of me. Men and women in black rushed around in front of me, listening into their ear pieces, like their life depended on it. I was so overwhelmed by the room, the people, the environment. I was way out of my element, not to mention comfort zone.
People greeted Adam with a wave as they ran past, going to what seemed to be designated places. The room when silent and still as I stepped one foot closer inside with Adam.
"This," Adam waved his hand around the entire room. "This is what we call Redson Protection Network. Or RPN for short." I gazed around the room, amazed.
Redson. I had heard that name before but I couldn't think where. It sounded so familiar but I couldn't trace it back to anyone I knew. I knew it was going to bug me for the rest of the day. I grunted annoyed with myself.
