"Have a good day kids!" Mom yells out the car window, blowing air kisses. Gavin happily waves back at her. And I smile. We start walking and Gavin heads toward the first grade hallway door. "Bye Kirsey wirsey tirsey nirsey!" He yells to me. I rolled my eyes.I hated when he called me that. "Bye Gav." I keep walking, my boots digging into the snow. I'm looking for Faith. Faith. Faith. I love that name. Faith. It made me feel happy. Faith is my best friend. She understands me. She laughs at my jokes. She gives me the best advice. She is the sister I never had. I don't see her, but I keep walking toward the entrance of the school. Then, in the corner of my eye, I see orange. And lots of it. I turn around and see Faith. Dressed in an orange shirt, orange skirt, orange leggings, orange socks, and her worn out orange crocs.
"Hey. I wonder what today's color is." I say sarcastically. She laughs. Faith only wears one color each day. Yesterday it was green, the day before that was purple, and the day before that was pink. Yes, she is very quirky. We link arms and push the doors open to the 7th grade hallway. I call the beginning of the day rush hour because everyone is trying to get to class on time. Faith and I, arms still linked, hustle through the crowd. We get to our blue lockers and start unpacking. I pull out my lunch money and stuff it inside my pocket. Faith unlocks her combination, and gasps. "OMG! There's a note in my locker from Ruben Walters!!!!!" She screams happily. I cover my ears. People look our way. This was the beginning of a long day.
