Gavin's problem

Mom gets up out of her chair.

"I'll go talk to him." She says, worriedly. She hurries toward the stairs.

"No. Mom I'll do it." I say. I walk past her and head up the stairs.

She gives me a thoughtful smile.

"Thank you." She whispers.

I walk up the stairs no knock on Gavin's door.

"Gav?"

"What?"

"Can I come in please?"

There's a pause.

"Maybe later."

"Oh, C'mon Gav! Let Kirs-"

I cringe.

"Let Kirsey Wirsey Tirsey Nirsey in please." Ugh. I had to.

"Fine."

I push the door open and find Gavin on the floor playing with his Legos.

"Whatcha doin?" I ask.

"I'm playing." He replies.

I sit down next to him. I pick up a blue and green Lego and stack them on top of each other. I look over at Gavin. He is building a rocket out of Legos. He's usually happy to play with me, but for some reason he's not today.

"Gav, at dinner-"

"I said I don't wanna talk about it." He interrupts. He turns away from me and continues to build.

I sigh. "Gav. You can tell me. It will be our secret, I promise."

He stops. He lowers his head.

"Alright. Well, you know Justin?"

"Yeah." Justin was Gavin's best friend.

"Yeah well Justin started playing with Harrison and didn't let me play with them." He frowns. "He hates me."

"He doesn't hate you! Gav, you have to realize that Justin can have more friends than just you."

"Does Faith have other friends than you?" Gavin asks.

I pause.

"Yeah. Uh...yeah she has...other friends." I reply, pushing my brown hair behind my ear.

"But he still said that I couldn't play with them." He mutters.

"Well that's because maybe he didn't want Harrison to feel bad that he's worse at building Legos than you." I say happily. Gavin grins.

"Nobody's better than this guy." He points to himself.

"Besides, everyone makes mistakes, he probably wanted to take back what he did right after he did it." I add.

"Yeah." He says. We smile at eachother.

It was at this moment that I realized Faith can't ruin my life. She can have her friends and I can have mine, but we can stay friends. I still don't know why she ignored me at the soccer fields though. I'll ask her on Monday.
