Loving in RED

Rose Weasley & Scorpius Malfoy

Prologue

The midday sun shone fiercely down on a little girl, highlighting her brilliant red hair. She had the kind of hazel eyes that were brown and blue, and they glinted with excitement as she prowled through the tall grasses. Her hands rested on her hips as she frowned, turning her head from side to side.

“Scorp!” she called “I know you’re out there. Stop hiding!” but no sound nor movement came from the towering grasses, and her bottom lip began to quiver as she realized there was no one there. Sitting on the ground, she cried into her hands as the wind rustled the grasses and the clouds rolled across the sky.

The clouds turned grey as she continued to cry, but whipped around when a pale hand found its way to her shoulder. “Don’t cry Red,” whispered a little boy, his hair practically blonde in the sun turned dim. “I’m sorry. Father wouldn’t let me leave without sitting with Grandmother Narcissa for a while.”

Wiping her eyes, she shrugged “It’s okay Scorp, I was just scared.”

“Well I’m here now,” grinned Scorpius “Now come one Rose, there’s still time to play!”

Rose smiled a little and stood as he tugged on her hand, and the two set off towards the edge of the field. Their thoughtful and dream like conversation was interrupted however when a roar of “Rose Amelia Weasley, what do you think you’re doing?!”

Rose stood up, sucking in her breathe as her father ran across the field towards them, ears red as he watched Scorpius with menacing eyes. “Daddy!” she cried “I-I’m sorry…Mummy said I could go play!”

“Yes, but not with him!” Ron said, taking her hand and pulling her away, put spinning back around and pointing his finger at Scorpius, who looked terrified that Ron might hit him.

“I’m sor-”

“Stay away from my daughter, Malfoy. I don’t want her anywhere near you or your father, you hear me?” Ron was furious, but he tried not to hold Rose’s wrist to hard as he picked her up and held her close as he walked back across the meadow, her crying as she beat his back with her little fists, pleading for him to let her down.

“Let me down!” she sobbed, tears running down her cheeks “Scorp! Daddy put me down! Scorp!”

But Ron didn’t let her down, not until they were back home and he’d brought her into the living room and sat her down on the couch. Hermione hovered in the doorway, two year old Hugo on her hip. She had never seen Ron so angry, but didn’t interfere. “Come on Hue,” she whispered “Let’s leave Daddy and Rosie alone.”

Ron kneeled down in front of his daughter, rubbing his temples. She was to little, her dirty bare feet not even close to touching the ground. Big brown and blue eyes stared at him, tear streaks still fresh on her cheeks-he hated it when she cried, it made him feel terrible inside.

“I’m sorry Rosie Pose,” he said softly, taking her little hand in his big one “But Daddy just wants you to be safe.”

“I was safe!” she cried, tears filling her eyes once again “I was with Scorp!”

“That’s my point honey,” Ron sat on the couch and took Rose in his lap, brushing a fiery red curl from her forehead “Malfoy-I mean Scorpius, isn’t…good. His father and I…well, his father did some pretty terrible things to Mummy and I when we were at school. I don’t want him to do anything to you.”

Rose was silent as she stared at her hands, resting in her lap like she had been taught. She didn’t understand her fathers reasoning’s, they didn’t sound like Scorp at all! He was so sweet and funny…he was her best friend, besides Albus.

“Rose, sweetie?” Ron asked, lifting her chin “Promise me you’ll stay away from him, please? For me?”

Biting her lip, Rose nodded and Ron sighed in relief, pulling her close. “Thank you Rosie, really. I love you, so so much.”

Rose nodded and hugged her Daddy, knowing she loved him, too-and that she could never break her promise to him. And that’s why, on her very first day of Hogwarts, when she saw Scorpius Malfoy on the platform and he smiled, began walking towards her, she shook her head and turned away.

A/N: Hey guys! So I'm in a dry season with TOTL right now (but that's how my writing process is, don't worry) so I decided to fool around a bit, and this is what I came up with! Please please please tell me what you think!!

Question: How do you think Rose and Scorpius will get along at Hogwarts? Rose is a Daddy's girl, so will she keep her father's promise for all these years? From the blurb, what do you think will happen...?
