It was easy to say that your daughter Sophia is the light of your life. She had the most beautiful smile, one that everyone said she got from you, and she was so full of energy and so happy, she's the best thing that's ever happened to you. When you first began dating Demi and eventually introduced Demi to Sophia, she was three. They both instantly opened up to each other and it made you feel so happy to see the two most important people in your life get along so well.

Demi loved Sophia like she was her own, always giving her hugs and kisses and wanting to spend time with her. When you had to work Demi always took care of her and they clearly loved each other a lot. Sophia's now five; a handful, to say the least. Full of energy and life, always laughing and smiling. She was still your little girl, wanting to follow you around everywhere you went, practically attached to your hip.

You had to work late tonight, a phone call to Demi that broke your heart because you promised to tuck Sophia into bed every night and you never wanted to break that promise. Demi promised you she'd tuck her in and take care of her until you got home and it made you feel more at ease, though you tried to rush through your work as quickly as possible.

Demi watched as Sophia played with her toys on the living room floor as her favorite cartoon played on the tv. Her hair was messy, falling out of the ponytail you had put in her hair earlier. The most beautiful and infectious sound kept slipping from her lips as the characters in the cartoon did goofy things. Demi reached down and ran her hand through her hair, smiling when she leaned her head back to look at her and giggled, Demi giggling along with her. "You're the sweetest little thing, you know that?" Sophia laughed and continued to play with her toys. It only took about forty minutes before Sophia began to yawn and rub her eyes, little sounds escaping her mouth as he tried to fight sleep and play. Demi noticed and got up from the couch, sitting down on the floor next to her and taking the toys out from her hands as Sophia looked at her with tired eyes. "You tired, honey? Ready for bed?" Sophia nodded her head and Demi stood up, smiling when Sophia reached her little arms out for Demi to pick her up.

She walked up the stairs slowly while she pressed kisses against Sophia's hairline, her head resting on Demi's shoulder. Demi looked down to find her tiny eyes closed, her lips slightly parted as her breath tanned against Demi's hoodie, her hands holding the strings. Demi felt relieved when she reached her bedroom, the walls decorated with butterflies and princess stickers. Demi gently laid her down on the bed before pressing a kiss to her forehead, about to walk out of the room when a tiny hand grabbed hers. "You okay sweetie?" Sophia played with Demi's fingers, her hand pressed against Demi's to compare the sizes of their hands. "Can you read me a story?" Demi smiled and stroked some of Sophia's soft hair away from her forehead, unable to resist her she caved instantly. "Yeah. Same as usual?" Sophia nodded and sat in against the pillows, giving Demi a toothy grin full of a few baby teeth that were bound to come out soon.

Demi felt like her heart had melted into a puddle when she saw Sophia smiling at her. She sat on the bed next to her, her heart bursting with love when Sophia sat on her lap with her head on her shoulder while Demi started reading her favorite book, 'goodnight moon'. Demi watched as Sophia's eyes closed as she got closer to the end of the book. "Good night, stars. Good night, air. Good night, noises everywhere." Demi closed the book before carefully pulling Sophia off of her and laying her down on her back, tucking her in under the soft blankets and pressing a soft kiss against her cheek. "Goodnight Sophia." She walked to the door and turned off the light, about to close the door when a small voice spoke up in the darkness and the words that she spoke made her heart race. "Night mommy." Demi froze and tears formed in her eyes, quietly closing the door behind her and quietly walking down the stairs. She sat on the couch in disbelief as tears streamed down her face. Mommy. Her voice kept replaying in her mind and she couldn't wait for you to get home so she could tell you.

It was a couple hours until you got home and Demi immediately leaped up from the couch to hug you. You laughed happily hugging her back until she pulled away. You panicked when you saw that she was crying, worry washing over you that maybe Sophia acted out or had gotten hurt. "Why are you crying baby? Is everything okay? Did something happen?" Demi nodded and your heart dropped. "What happened?" "Y/N, she called me mommy." You gasped before hugging her again, knowing from experience how much that one little word means. "Wait! You aren't mad are you? Like, at me? Because after all you are her mommy and I'm not technically, so if it's not okay then-" you cut her off by placing your hands on her cheeks and Demi leaned in to them, closing her eyes as your thumb stroked her cheek. "Mad? How in the hell could I ever be mad about that? I'm happy Demi. So unbelievably happy." She smiled and kissed your chin before you pulled away from her, walking upstairs to check on your favorite girl as your second favorite girl followed behind you.

You sat down on her bed and kissed her forehead, the light still off but you could still see her chest rising and falling. You stroked her hair back, your heart exploding over how much love you had for this little human who loved you almost as much as you did her. The one that counted on you for everything, big or small. The one who looked up to you oh so much. You felt her tiny hand grab yours and you turned on the lamp on her table, looking at her to find her awake. She leaped up and threw her arms around your neck, both of you giggling as she held onto you. "I missed you so much, my princess." You kissed her forehead head and she giggled against you. "Missed you more mommy." She said, your arms wrapping around her a little tighter to keep her close. Demi watched as she watched the two of you from the doorway, listening as Sophia told you all about the day she had with Demi, or as she referred to her, mommy. Demi felt like crying again as she watched and listened on, thanking her lucky stars that her life led her here, to this exact moment with the two girls she loved more than anything else.
