Annabeth's POV
"Percy!! Get your butt in here!!" I heard Jason" yell. We both ignored him.
We were talking about New Rome. The towns...the shops...the cool little fountains I would like.
We were in the stables. Leo didn't realize pegasi prefer to be free spirits but I liked it.
It reminded me when we had our first talk...our first real talk. I slipped my hand into Percy's.
We sat in beautiful blissful silence.
"Are you scared?" Percy broke the silence.
"What?" I asked softly. His eyes were far-off and distraught.
"Scared about what's going to happen?" His voice still seemed calm and smooth.
"What are you talking about Percy?" I was beginning to get concerned.
"It's just...I'm scared something's going to happen. Maybe to you...maybe to me...its just, what if one day I won't be there. I won't be there to help you. I know you don't need my help but..."
His voice cracked slightly.
"Annabeth what if you need my help and I'm not there? Annabeth," He sounded on the brink of tears, "I don't think I'd ever be able to live with myself."
I was shocked. How long had he been thinking about this?
"Percy. I promise you that will never happen. I know you. You always think you need to be here for me but...I need to be there for you too."
I looked into his eyes, his beautiful sea green eyes.
"I'll always be there for you and you'll always be there for me." Percy said with the smallest of smiles.
"Always." I said.
He started to lean in for a kiss. Our lips met and for the first time in a long time we had a good proper kiss.
We broke apart and just enjoyed each other's company.
And then Frank walked in.
"Oh!" Frank said blushing bright red, " I-I didn't mean to-I mean-I uh-Jason told me...oh gods.
"Frank!" I said blushing bright red I swear weren't doing anything!"
"Kissed a little." Percy commented.
"You're not helping." I glared. We stared at each other in silence until we eventually just burst out laughing.
That earned a couple of weird looks from Frank which only made us laugh harder.
Oh Seaweed Brain...
And then I woke up. I was still camped here in Calypso's island. I was still in a war with Gaea. And Percy...he was still-he w-was still....
Tears slowly started to roll down. Piper, who must of been awake, came over and tried to comfort me.
"Nightmares?" She asked, even though she knew the truth.
The dreams aren't nightmares...reality is.
I sobbed into her shoulder, feeling so helpless and broken.
Oh Percy...where did I go wrong? I lost a friend, somewhere along in the bitterness.
And the sad part is I would have stayed up with him all night...had I known how to save a life.
