After that fateful evening, Bakugou Katsuki and Midoriya Izuku completely ignored each other. Their middle school classmates tried to jibe and tease Izuku. For the way, he constantly babbled about. Taking the entrance exam for Yuuei. Even their teacher discouraged him.

Katsuki was surprisingly quiet and with calculating red eyes.

Something had changed after their breakup. For once he saw no reason to laugh at Izuku's long-winded mutterings. It did look like he was at least trying to get into shape.

It was the day for the entrance exam to attend UA. Katsuki's lifelong dream, he'd spent years preparing for this moment. He would pass the exams and start on the path to becoming the number one hero.

Katsuki was beyond furious when he realised. Deku was assigned to sit beside him on the written exam. Heartstrings throbbed painfully, they had not been this close since two semesters ago. Katsuki gave his most derisive glare.

"Go home Deku. This exam isn't for the likes of you, I'm the only one from our district that will go to UA. We both know that." The blond's voice was filled with crackling tension and mustering confidence.

Just waiting to explode at the right ignition. Katsuki had not spoken a word to Deku in months. Just looking at his ex-boyfriend hurt like hell. Pin prickling needles cutting against Katsuki's heart.

Izuku flinched as his throat clogged up with regret. He shouldn't have expected any less. His muscles still twitched after his last training session earlier this morning.

The lump throbbed unhappily as its owner dared to defy the harsh words. "That...is not for you to decide Kacchan. I have as much right to be here as you do." The words left his lips but he still felt those red eyes glaring at him.

Izuku shivered as he felt Katsuki's breath close to his ear. "Damn it Deku, you're not an idiot. You *know* you can't complete the practical exam even if you pass the written exam." Despite that, Katsuki's words bit into Izuku's shoulders.

After what he'd done Katsuki still cared about him? Izuku's heart fluttered with achingly familiar warmth. Maybe some things were more difficult to get rid of after all. "I can. I can do this Kacchan, just wait for me..." Izuku muttered stubbornly.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Three months ago Katsuki had never in his life believed his childhood friend, his ex-boyfriend...his Deku. Would ever have a chance at attending UA. Deku was quirkless, or so he and everyone else in the neighbourhood had thought.

Even their old schools had fallen for it, how the actual fuck. Had Deku managed to hide that he had such strong quirk? Deku had kept that big of a secret from him. They had been together and it was never brought up.

How, or even why hadn't Deku told him? It hurt nearly as much as their breakup. It was definitely a close second, Katsuki had come to terms with it. That when it concerned Midoriya Izuku.

Everything became this elaborate, confusing web of familiar mutterings and hushed promises. Something about Deku's quirk not being his?

It did not make any sense, Katsuki constantly thought about it. Even during school hours, or when he did homework or the times he had a small study group with Kirishima and Kaminari.

"Bakugou....hey! Are you listening?" Kaminari questioned. Only to be met with silence. He looked around the library. Kirishima had not gotten back yet. Kirishima had walked outside the library to buy some snacks. From the vending machine.

It was rare to find Bakugou lost in thought. Kaminari played with the idea of gently poking Bakugou's shoulder. But thought better of it. But, that might work.
