together -gibson x reader

gibson was french, and though he had desperately tried to hide it with an english uniform, he still felt out of place. gibson had hoped that he would be able to, with the enlish uniform, get onto one of the english ships and get out of dunkirk and away from the war. sadly, boats were sinking left and right, and gibson was left with his girlfriend (a french nurse), a newfound friend named tommy, and the mysterious alex. tommy didn't talk much, but his eyes showed understanding, and so the always silent gibson felt at ease with him.

alex, however, unnerved gibson. something about him made gibson feel as if he couldn't be trusted. or as if alex didn't trust him. the man hadn't said much of anything, none of them had, which left his intentions unclear. alex had, however, followed gibson, tommy, and y/n onto a small beach where they lay down for the night. gibson left to go to the bathroom, but the long time that he spent there concerned y/n, causing her to follow him.

"gibson? you okay?" she calls out softly, approaching him. upon seeing him, y/n is only met with the sight of her love crumpled up on the ground, crying into his hands. y/n immediately falls to her knees, sitting next to him. "what's the matter?" she whispers, holding his head in her hands.

"i shouldn't be here. we're going to die." gibson worried aloud, resting his head on y/n's shoulder. she gently begins to play with the curls that reside by the nape of his neck, hoping the action would soothe him. "i want to run away." gibson cries, looking back up at y/n.

the girl sighs, wiping away his tears. "you're so brave. and being scared is okay." she assures him, tilting his chin with a finger so that he'll make eye contact with her again. "you are so brave, gibson, for even being here. you've survived for a reason, and we're going to get through this together.
