A Dream

Drops of rain feel cold against my skin. I look up, the raindrops were starting to get heavier and fall faster. I close my eyes for a moment, feeling the the wind against me, it was cool but blew a bit to hard; I stumble back a few steps. My eyes were watering. Taking a look around me, I realise I was surrounded by trees; tall, dark trees, that were slightly swaying, which seemed impossible. The wind was much too strong. They should be bending over, some even snapping. Wait. How was I even stood up?

I was in a small clearing. A clearing a bit too small. It was dark. The moon was no where to be seen...and yet I could see the trees around me like the moon sat just above my head. It seemed unrealistic. Too unrealistic. I hear a splash from somewhere in front of me. Where had I heard that before? Suddenly I could feel my legs move. I was walking. I didn't remember wanting to walk. I feel myself walking faster. A scream comes from up a head.

I try to stop myself from going any further. My hair feeling heavy and sticking to my face. I was shrinking, or the trees grew taller. My leg suddenly stopping, forced my upper body to jerk forwards slightly. I stare ahead. Jagged rocks surrounded a shadowy lake. A shallow lake. The water on filling half way up the tall rocks. How did I know this? What was I even doing there? I hear another scream. The rain had lightened to just a drizzle. A figure was standing at the edge of the lake, on the tallest jagged rock. It was a lady: she had long dark black hair flowing over her shoulders, a beautiful angelic face, her eyes cool ice blue, sharp but soft at the same time. She had a figure of a model wrapped in a silky white floating dress. The lady smiled at me. A word floated out of my mouth, "Mum".

That can't be right. My mum died 8 years ago. She was murdered. Drowned in a lake. A lake. In the woods. I watch as figures came out, from between the twisted trees in the dark. Men. The exact ones that killed her. Drowned her. Each had a dark uniform with a logo of an animal in white, surrounded by a sliver studded ring. I didn't warn my mother then, but I could now..."Mum", it came out as a croaky whisper. "Mum" This time it came out louder, a shout. My mum still smiled. She couldn't hear me. I swallowed, "Mum!". 1 foot, I took a deep breath, " MUM!".

Too late, they grabbed my mother by her side. One of them twisted my mother's arm as she tried to slip out of their grip. My mum let out a piercing scream, a patch of crimson blood was now forming on her dress: from where she had scrapped her leg against the sharp rock. The scream. It was the same one as the one that been echoing the haunted woods before. A man wrapped his thick hand round my mother's mouth. I watched in horror. They lift my mother, struggling as they did so, and threw her into the, now murky looking, water. She can't swim! I watched,my eyes refusing to move. My mother's bright white dress reminded of a ghost. She slowly sank to the bottom of the lake. Only a lighter shade of water showed that she was ever there.
