SKYLAR

Music: Sensation from Salamander 2

At 8:32 PM, the ten of us are sitting (or lying on the floor, in Mia and Shanna's case) in the living room of our clubhouse. On the TV in front of us is some mermaid-related movie that Mia and Shanna picked for movie night. Think of it like typical anime, but girly and just overall worse. Only Mia and Shanna are getting into it. The rest of us have just been sitting here, bored out of our minds. Even Sean and Mackenzie are minutes away from falling asleep.

In the movie, the seven (somewhat skimpily dressed, might I add) girls form a circle and join hands. They then start reciting some enchantment, and soon, their bodies all start glowing. Mia and Shanna start excitedly squealing and clapping their hands together, which increases the level at which the rest of us are pissed off.

"Oh my God... just shut up..." Avery moans.

"Everything about this is bad," Sam states.

Mia glares at the rest of us, frowning. "None of you would understand true story-telling if it hit you in the head. Every adventure these girls have taken together is all culminating in this moment."

"And every minute that I spend watching this torture is one minute closer to my death," I mutter under my breath.

As the powers begin to activate, the girls then launch into what has to be the tenth musical number of the movie. They begin displaying superhuman "abilities", most of which is just flying around and doing acrobatic stunts in midair. The giant octopus monster that has been terrorizing their city notices them and begins to attack them, but, wouldn't you know it, the girls are now overpowered as hell.

"This is a super cheesy action sequence," Heath comments. "Like, this entire movie is insisting on the idea that friendship equals power, but it just doesn't work that way."

"It's an animated movie. It doesn't have to," Shanna replies.

"Doesn't mean it's not stupid," Elle grumbles.

Less than ten minutes later, the credits finally begin to roll, and most of us let out a huge sigh of relief and exclaim something like "Finally!" or "Thank God...". Mia and Shanna just exchange an eye roll with each other.

"Welp, I regret changing my mind about not coming now," Luke says, standing up and stretching.

"I could've been at home working on my homework. Instead, I wasted my evening watching this pile of crap," Avery mutters.

"Call this movie crap again, and it'll be the last insult you ever give anything," Mia threatens. Avery is unfazed; Mia talks big but almost never fully goes through on her threats.

"Pssh, imagine having to deal with homework," Sam laughs. For some reason, he tends to get way less homework than the rest of us do. It's been like this since middle school, and none of us have figured out why.

"You lucky son of a bitch," Luke growls. "My math teacher screws me with homework almost every night."

"Okay, well, I'm going to go stare out a window and question every decision I've ever made," I declare.

"Good idea, Skylar," Heath replies. He and I then randomly make awkward eye contact for about a second. About a month ago, I felt pressured about the idea of Heath and I's relationship going further from just being a casual thing, especially since we're going into high school. So, I requested to Heath that we downgrade to just being friends, bringing our year-and-a-half long relationship to an end. Heath is handling it fine, but we've definitely been interacting less ever since. The other two couples (Sam and Elle; Mia and Sean) are still going strong, though.
