A/N
This is the one-shot that occurs when you're up until 1am wandering around the house, so warning, you may notice grammatical mistakes, or how it moves really quick. This setting however, is kinda medieval themed, where John is crown prince, and Sera is a thief in the village. (See where I'm going here?) This is purely my creative motivating 1am energy, so don't judge if it's actually trash. But yeah, anyways, enjoy it, read it, and suggest more stuff for me to write about! Sorry for not updating in so long by the way.

It was hard to be at the top.John knew this well. Some say it's from experience, but he believes it's because he's known what's its like to be at the bottom. To be treated like scum, and to be hated and despised. But most of all, to have no worth at all.
And yet, he would prefer that over what he had now, sitting on his throne. The image he had to sustain, and the knowledge that he would never gain everyone's agreement nor love. That he would always somehow be dispised somehow. And even after all his effort to keep himself in control he'd never truly be free.
He hated the system, far more than he hated his position. The first in line for the throne, going in once the king died. And the fact that the king wasn't even his father irked him. And that his father was probably rotting somewhere outside of the castle walls.
The only reason he had the position, was for his power. The one he resented so much, and had overused when he was younger. When he had attacked others, coming from a lower family. He had beat several of the royal family members senseless, and had gotten quite a beating for it.
And yet they had overlooked that, choosing him and raising him as a Royal right after.
He didn't understand it at all.
However, those things were far from his mind as he exited the castle walls, heading towards the village nearby. If he couldn't feel free inside the kingdom walls, he would have to find somewhere else, somewhere where he would feel free.
Away from the system.
One thing almost hated almost as much as he hated the way things worked, was his 'Brother.' A tall blonde haired boy, baby blue eyes and all that shit. He had the arrogance and pride of the king himself, and hated the John for getting the position instead of him. His hatred burned even more furiously for the ravenette, for the reason that he had just come out of nowhere, swooping in and taking his position.
It's not that John hates him for that, he understood perfectly why the boy would be angry. To be promised a position, and then for it to be taken away. However, it was the way he showed his hatred that really annoyed John. Doing his best to make his life miserable in the kingdom.
And it was moments like these that he felt better, when he was outside the walls of that place. Where he didn't have to act like the prince or soon-to-be king.
With the dirtiest cloak that John could find in the castle, he slipped on the hood of the brown cloak. Last thing he needed was someone recognizing him. He could be targeted, and not everyone exactly agreed with some of the rules the king had put. And they'd probably blame it on John.
He walked on, now on new terrain. The dirt was drier, and any sign of grass was almost gone. The trees that stood and almost cradled the village, where the old thin lined bark peeling off with the years. John reached to touch one of them, curious as to what they'd feel like. But he decided against it, he could never make his visits here too long anyway.
