Our Wedding Band
Chapter Nine –
The curtain closed, the crowd started to mumble, I felt a little lost without my boys, so I sat there patiently waiting to see what else would come about in this concert. I tried to guess who would perform next, I could see who was in the crowd but I had no idea who was back stage, anyone from the music industry could be lurking behind there.
“Do you hear me, I'm talking to you. Across the water across the deep blue ocean under the open sky, oh my, baby I'm trying” The voice came before the face, I still couldn’t see Ed, but I could definately hear him as could all of the audience.
“Boy I hear you in my dreams I feel your whisper across the sea I keep you with me in my heart. You make it easier when life gets hard” the unmistaken voice of one miss Katy Perry rang through the whole room as the curtain rose to reveal two of the most talented people I’d ever met. I admit it was an odd coupling but somehow it worked.
“I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend, lucky to have been where I have been, lucky to be coming home again Ooohh ooooh oooh oooh ooh ooh ooh ooh” they sang together, this sent shivers down my spine, they looked and sounded amazing, my heart raced at the thought of this all being for the wedding.
“They don't know how long it takes waiting for a love like this” sang Katy and Ed started singing with her “Every time we say goodbye I wish we had one more kiss I'll wait for you I promise you, I will” Their voices harmonized perfectly, I suddenly felt insecure in my own singing ability.
“I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend lucky to have been where I have been lucky to be coming home again lucky we're in love in every way lucky to have stayed where we have stayed lucky to be coming home someday” The song ended with the pair looking into each other’s eyes, them sharing a hug before bowing towards the crowd.
“We love you Jayde.” Katy called out to me, blowing kisses into the crowd, Ed laughed at her cheekiness before speaking into his own mike.
“Congratulations to the happy couple, it’s about time you guys got hitched.” The crowd laughed, and the pair waved before heading backstage. My sister Brittany came down to sit beside me with her handsome boyfriend, she held onto my hand as if to say ‘this is all for you, you lucky girl.’ I squeezed her hand back and rested my head upon her shoulder. It felt great being here I just never imagined it to be like this at all.
The beautiful Taylor Swift walked over to me while the curtain was down, she grabbed my hand and lifted me from my seat, I was slightly confused unsure as to what was going on until I noticed she had a microphone in her hand.
“Oh no.” I panicked giving her a wary look.
“What do you mean oh no?” she asked teasing me, the crowd started laughing I felt my cheeks flame up.
“You’re going to help me with this next song alright?” I nodded, what else was I to do? She then handed me a spare microphone and I gulped I hadn’t sung in front of these people before I was a little nervous.
“We were both young when I first saw you. I close my eyes and the flashback starts: I'm standing there on a balcony in summer air. See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns. See you make your way through the crowd And say, "Hello," Little did I know...” She sang beautifully along with the music, before turning to me hand on hip looking unimpressed. She stopped singing and turned to the crowd.
“Shouldn’t she be singing along?” she asked they all started saying ‘Yes’ which made me blush. The music started playing again and Taylor looked at me and tapped her foot, so I began to sing.
