The storm fades part 1: There's no sunset without darkness

1. Angels

You might think angels
Only fly about in white
Above clouds
And that they're perfect
And you only really meet them
Or find them
If you're perfect.

But angels
Walk around the streets of our cities
In the offices and conference rooms of our countries
The buildings of our schools
The rooms of our homes
And they may not be perfect
But they're breaking down barriers
To make our world perfect.

They stand at podiums
Make speeches at meetings
Or simply, hug you when you're down
And remind you of how amazing you are
When life makes you forget it
And make you laugh when you're about to cry
They are in our hearts
They are in the words they speak
The inspiration and love and empowerment they bring
And the changes they make
To our worlds.

You might not see their halos
The fog they're trying to clear
Blurring them out
And not everyone will hear their
Beautiful song
But no anger
Or resentment
Ever overcame love.

The world might not even know they're there
The people of the future
The ones fighting for equality
Speaking up to end poverty
Throwing themselves in the firing line for peace
The ones pushing to end climate change
The ones with the world's weight on their wings.

And some, only you might see,
The ones who care for you unconditionally
The people always there for you regardless of what anyone says
Family and friends
And friends who basically are family
The ones who help you when life gets too heavy
And carry your weight on their wings.

But you've read all the stories
Of fights between good and evil?
That, in the end, evil is incapable of winning
Because it doesn't have love
On its side.

That eternal darkness
Aggression and complaining
Petty fights and division
Never has and never will
Solve anything
Don't you know that you'll never win
If you pull down the black curtains and let the hate filled words ring?

So turn on the light
And the sun will radiate brighter
Than ever before
Because it's only in
Care and respect and enlightenment
We can hope to move forward at all
So smile knowing we will win -
As you use your heart to fight the battle and let the angels sing!

And even when the angels go back to where they belong
I promise those who love you are never truly gone;
Everywhere you go, in all that you do,
The angels of the world will be singing love and kindness right there next to you.
