Chapter 5
When the last period was over, I rushed out of the classroom like I was avoiding the plague. Well yes, I am avoiding something - or someone, but not the plague. Or, yeah, maybe you can call him a plague. He has been following me around the whole day, asking questions about everything that came up in his class. I have to get away from him because I might get bullied again.
"Roxy!" His loud voice resonated from the hall. Oh no, I must sprint. So I did. I easily ran through the large crowd of students hurriedly wanting to go home already. This is a small person's advantage, and right now I am thankful for being short. I was supposed to meet with my friends at the courtyard but I know I couldn't stay there so as I approach the place and stop by our table, I got out a sticky paper and posted it on the table. After writing "code red," I dashed to the chemistry laboratory to hide from Zach, the Roxy hunter.
I ducked under the shelves near the locked door. With my eyes closed and my body tensed, I counted to ten waiting for Zach to kick the door open. After a few moments when nothing happened, I sighed and let my head fall backwards on the shelf.
"Yo!" Someone yelled from the window across me.
I jumped in my crouched position causing me to hit my head on the top shelf. A groan escaped my mouth, "Opened blinds." I complained, my eyes widening in frustration. "Why are the blinds and windows opened?"
"Come on, Roxy," he laughed softly. His eyes were twinkling with mischievousness as he prop himself up on the window ledge. He looked like he was trying to keep himself from laughing, "Why are you running and hiding from me?"
Pulling myself up, I sighed sheepishly. "Why are you chasing-" A book fell on my head which made him let out his obnoxious, melodic laugh. How embarrassing. "Thanks, Quantum Chem." I pouted at the hardbound Advance in Quantum Chemistry book, then picked it up and placed it back with the other series.
Looking over at the football player who is laughing so hard that - I'm surprised - hasn't fell off the ledge yet. Take note: Yet. I'm just going to wait or push him off. I patted my cheeks and breathed deeply. Why am I embarrassed? I never get embarrassed when something like this happens. Maybe it's because my friends are the only witnesses most of the time.
"Did you need something?" I asked calmly, walking towards the window where he was. Don't push him, just run off. Don't push him. Don't push him.
The more I will myself not to push him and sprint off, the more it seems like he's taunting me to do it. He's looking at me intensely, his expression were both of confusion and challenge. Is he challenging me to push him off? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding him, or maybe he really is challenging me.
I extended my arms towards him. His face turned blank for a second, then stern instantly. "Roxy," he said slowly. I stopped what I was doing. "Don't you dare," he continued. He must have figured what I was going to do. Smart boy.
Clearing my throat, I retracted my arms and crossed them over my chest. "Sorry," I apologized. "Did you need something?" I repeated my question.
Nodding, he answered, "Yes, but get out of there first."
My eyebrows furrowed, "Why?"
He jumped off which made me sigh. I really wanted to know what would happen if I was the one who made him fall off somewhere. I don't know what's wrong with me. He spoke, "so I can talk to you face-to-face -"
"You are talking to me face-to-face," I deadpanned.
He held up his right hand, "You did not let me finish. As I was saying before you rudely interrupt me," he gave me a look. "You have to get out of there so I can talk to you face-to-face and drag you with me wherever whenever I need to."
