Star and Marco Sitting in a Tree

Marco sat under a tree with his girlfriend, Star. They were pretty silent, neither of them wanting to look at the other. There was hatred slowly boiling between the two. They'd never truly hate each other, but they did sometimes wish they could. This happened to be one of those times.
Star sighed and looked over at Marco, taking in every bit of him. He was adorable, in her eyes. Everything about him was great. His hair, his face, his laugh, and his smile, even though he didn't smile as often anymore. She looked around hesitantly before scooting closer to him and leaning on his shoulder, and he flinched.

Marco was currently lost in thought. He was afraid, he didn't want to lose Star. He waited so long to be with her, and he went through so many chaotic adventures to stay by her side. But something changed. He didn't want to admit it, but she was very hard to please. He wanted to make her happy, but it was just so difficult. He was staring at the ground near his feet, mindlessly observing the grass, and the little ants who crawled around in the grass.

'What if she doesn't like me anymore? And... What if she's just making things hard on me so I'll eventually break up with her. What if she is just too scared to dump me? She wants me to be the one who does the dirty work. What if she likes Tom, I mean, they do hang out a lot...'

He flinched. Star had laid her head on his shoulder, and he was caught off guard. She chuckled softly and reached up to pet his hair. He relaxed and leaned his head on hers. He just wanted to forget everything. He wanted to make this work, but a thought stayed back in the depths of his mind; one he was deeply afraid to admit, but he knew it was true.

'We'd be better off as just friends.'

It had been around three months since they officially started dating. Marco was so tired now. They argued a lot, over the smallest things. 'What happened to us?' He laid back on his bed and sighed, and stared up at the ceiling.

"Marco!" She kicked his door open and he groaned. "Marco, how many times have I told you to stop sleeping during they day? You're gonna stay up all night and be tired and cranky in the morning and I'm gonna have to hear "ugh, Staarr, I don't wanna go to schooool" and I'm gonna have to argu-"
"Yes, yes, I get it Star. I'm just tired. And bored." She huffed and started to walk out of the room.
"Well, why don't you go hang out with Tom? I heard he's not busy right now." 'Of course, she'd think of Tom. She probably does have a crush on him now. I mean I guess I can see why, he's super sweet, and besides the outburst here and there, he's actually really nice. Not to mention that he's really attractive... Way better looking than me.'
"Marco!" He jumped, and looked over at her. "Marco, what gives?? I've been calling your name for like an entire minute now. What's wrong? Aren't you and Tom friends?"
"Of course we're friends, Tom is great! I was just thinking about..." He paused. What was he supposed to tell her, that he was lost in thought about her demon ex boyfriend? No, that wouldn't make anything better. "I was thinking about... Global warming... And the, uh, plastic.. In the ocean."
Star looked at him with a blank face for a second. "Huh, I guess that's nice. Thinking about those sea turtles, eh?" She chuckled and walked out of his room, calling from the hallway. "I'm gonna be out with Janna Banana and Jackie today, catch you later!"

He sighed, slowly crawling out of bed when he heard the front door close. He grabbed out his scissors and opened a portal into Tom's room. He looked around, trying to spot the demon, but when he didn't, he just laid on his bed. It was incredibly warm in Tom's room, as it was in the dimension in general. He decided to make himself at home, since he was pretty used to doing that here, anyway.
He curled up under the blanket on Tom's bed, covering his entire body. and he began to drift off to sleep when he felt something heavy fall onto his back, and he let out an audible "Ughhh...."
Tom jumped up and pulled the cover off slightly and chuckled. "Marco? I'm so sorry, dude. I thought you weren't gonna be here since it'd been a hot minute since Star called. Anyways, uh, what's up?"
Marco sat up and smiled weakly at his friend. "I'm really tired, to be honest, Tom. Star, she just... Ugh... She wears me out, man." He rested his head on his hands and groaned.
"Yeah, she can be a handful. It's kinda getting a little too much for me to deal with her when she visits, which I don't know if you've noticed, is very often." Marco sighed. He still believed that Star might still be into Tom, and this just made him believe it even more.
"Seems like she likes you more than she does me, heh." Marco chuckled, and Tom sighed, the smile falling from his face.
"Well too bad for her. I've moved on, now. Even though it'll never happen.." Tom mumbled the last bit, but it was still audible.
"You actually like someone that isn't Star??" Tom nodded.
"Oh my gosh, Tom, who? Maybe we can hook you up with her. Hold on get up lets get your tux on and-" Tom gently put a finger on Marco's lips and shushed him.
"I appreciate it, Marco. But he doesn't like me like that, so I don't really have any chance. Plus he's dating someone, anyway." Tom looked away and sighed, his face slightly tinted.

"Oh, I'm sorry, dude. Maybe you should tell him, anyway, y'know? Wait- "he??"
