"It was me." a voice says.
"I killed Annette."
It wasn't mother or father, it wasn't Matthew either...
Shirley?
Shirley was standing by the door of the living room, Grace was standing behind her. with tears in her eyes.
"Shirley?... Why? How... how even?!"
"Well, it wasn't that hard. I just had to pull a trigger and she was dead." She scoffs.
How can she be so heartless? She was always so nice and friendly...
"You killed Annette?! How could you?! Why would you do something like that?!" Father yells standing up, approaching Shirley.
"Because Annette isn't the perfect person everybody thinks she is! She isn't and she proved it all of you! But no one ever did something about it! She deserves whatever has happened to her!" Shirley yells.
"So you thought killing her would make you a hero? All these years, people thought I killed her! I loved Annette, I would never kill her! You made us look guilty! Aren't you ashamed?!"
"I hated it! I hated it! I hated it all! Annette had always been the perfect girl! She was everyone's favorite! While I was always left behind! I hated my sister!"
Annette... was Shirley's sister?
"So your name is Shirley Fer-"
"Shirley Ferguson, yes. You've figured that out Julia!"
"Why would you kill your own sister?!"
"Because, when your twin sister has been in the spotlight your entire life, you get tired of it. She was my parents' favorite daughter, every teacher's favorite student, every family member's favorite twin,... She was everyone's bloody favorite! And why? Because she was so pretty, funny, smart, kind, ... she had every quality to be the perfect Ferguson, qualities that I didn't have.So when I found out she had an affair with a married man, I had to do everything in my power to prove how imperfect she was. Now, Patricia, don't tell me you felt bad for Annette and Ronald when you found out she was dead?! I bet, that if I hadn't killed her, that you would've... Wouldn't you, Patricia."
Shirley approaches mother, waiting for an answer from her, but mother stayed silent.
"I was mad and disgusted, but I never wanted her dead." She said eventually.
"Not even after the huge scandal?"
What huge scandal, wasn't my father cheating a huge scandal already? What is going on?!
"What huge scandal...?" I ask approaching Shirley and mother slowly.
Shirley turns around laughing, facing me. Every time she takes a step closer I take a step back.
This part of Shirley scares me...
"Julia, I'm not entirely heartless now am I?"
Well...
"You thought cheating was a scandal? It is, especially when you're married. But having a baby with a woman, while being married to another, is a bigger scandal. So, instead of killing my sister off immediately, I decided to wait until the baby was born. The baby is alive and is currently 16, can you guess who the baby is, Julia?"
This can't be...
"It's... me... me-"
"Correct, Julia! So, if add everything up, Annette is your mother! Why do you think Patricia hates you so much?! Why do you think your 'parents' don't love each other? Thinking about it now, your father Ronnie has ruined the lives of three people: His own, Annette's and Patricia's! Ha, neither of you was perfect, it's a match made in heaven!" Shirley laughs.
