Chapter 6

“You ready to go Roe yet?” Mum shouted through all her excitement she was practically screaming all night jeez even the removal men were excited there was just a vibe in the house. “Urm, I dunno” I said and it was true I have never been on a plane and then im moving half way around the world on one yea that makes sense? But when did life ever make sense? I mean why was Tommy chosen? Why not one of the dicks in my year Tommy helped everyone and what did he get nothing he got freaking nothing! Bt I suppose I had to go, it’ll be fun. New people. No one of them would know about Tommy, so I could try an hmm “new” me?

I reached the bottom of the stairs with a bag full of my possession for the plane; I had put in a book, word search, pencils, my i-pod and a picture of me and Tommy. It was my favourite object I had it with me everywhere but school because they wouldn’t understand I mean who would? Then all the negative energy seemed to dissolve and was replaced by this buzz. I was going to Australia!

Only a few minuets later I was running around the empty house saying goodbye to everything until there was nothing left to say goodbye to.  But I was not sad you see I couldn’t remember any good memories in this house only bad, like dad walking about Tommy being ill this was the house of bad dreams. Next I ran outside and just took my surroundings in. There wasn’t much I can tell you. There was a normal road running down the middle of the street which I knew that if you got up at eight o’clock in the morning there would be a bus that would come and stop at the end of the road, a bus that would take me to hell.  I mean maybe some people tried to be nice but I never hung around long enough to hear, if I had then what? Maybe I should try it at my new school?

On either side of the road were house in one line all the way to the eye can see in every direction the same house doubled. Cars parked neatly in the drives next to each house each front garden tidy. No one ever really spoke on this estate I mean no one ever came it it was full of elderly people and people without kids so I learnt to be quite and stay indoors. I mean im sure they were nice but I didn’t want to risk it and I was to shy to say anything if anyone of them ever said “Hello” to me. Pathetic I know!

My mum walked along the path gave me a weak smile and pulled me into a hug. “Im sorry, but I’ll try again we can make this work” it was more for herself im sure. She turned walked towards the white peeling door, closed it slowly and gently and then put the key in the door and for one final time locked the door. She lingered for a moment before turning round and walking to the taxi. The taxi man helped with our carry on luggage the rest had already gone.  We each had a small backpack with things for the plane, but it would mean we could go through baggage and stuff quicker and get out of the airport on the other side.

The journey to the airport was about two or more hours to get to the airport. It was massive. It was loud too with the planes taking off and landing. It was all very excited, like a kid at Christmas. I suppose my nerves would kick in soon I mean if we were born to fly we’d be born with wings right? The building was packed with people, men in suites, young families with children screaming, there was just this atmosphere and you know I quite liked it.

I looked at Dave, yea we got to know him on the ride here. He has two children a girl called Rosebelle she is six and a boy called Duke who is three he showed us a picture as well while we were stuck in traffic he has a cute little family. I want a family like that one day. Well we did once. But lets not dwell on the past when the future is so close. Just on a plane for twenty-four hours then a taxi ride to the new house and I will be free. Well as free as a 17 year old can be.  Maybe I’ll have friends though?

Mum was as stunned as I was. With the sun glinting off the glass and into her open with amazed eyes.  I looked around the surroundings we were in once more before turning and waving Dave off as mum paid him, this was going to be awesome. I turned back to the big glass building ready to walk in. Ready to take the next step to a new life. Then I saw him. I watched him get out of the taxi and haul his case away. His plain blue case, ten the crowd swallowed him up. No,no this was not happening, not today. But I suppose he could be going somewhere else I mean there were other flights.  I mean why would he go to Australia he had everything.
