- Skip the Airport stuff and Plane ride -

I trudged along through a hall to enter the airport from the plane, I checked in my suitcase which meant I have to get it which was even more work.

I sighed as I walked through the airport in a new country. There was some French but mostly English signs.

While I was waiting for the luggage to exit the plane, I checked my phone, since I hadn't yet today.

The only notification that popped up was from my dad. He texted the address, which was pretty far from my current location. I mentally groaned in frustration. As if this day hasn't been shitty enough.

The suitcases started filing out of the conveyor belt. I squeezed between two burly men to grab my case. Once I collected my luggage, very awkwardly, might I add, I headed to the parking lot. Having no idea what to do really helps in this sort of situation, right?

I traveled around the whole airport confused, and just about exploring every corner while getting lost again and again.

Eventually I gave up and went to an information desk and asked how I could get to the address. They lady there told me to take a taxi, it would be the easiest. So I ended up walking to the other end of the airport before finally finding the taxi's.

There was a line of maybe 15 taxi's so I jsut went with one right in front of me. Right as I sat down in the taxi, the stench of cigarette and B.O. filled my nostrils. It was pretty suffocating, especially with all of the windows closed. But then again, it was getting colder in the season, and in Canada, it was much colder than home.

I gave the.. interesting looking driver the address, and we started to drive away from the airport. When I say interesting, I mean he had a gnarly beard and was going bald on top of his head. Like all of his hair went from the top of his head to his chin.

I decided it was going to be a little bit before we arrived at the home, so I plugged in my headphones to my phone and listened to my music. Eventually I dozed off in the smelly-ass car.

———

"Aye!" Someone screamed very loudly.

I screamed in shock and sat up abruptly, cutting my neck on the seatbelt.

"Oh buddy, calm down. You wouldn't wake up, sorry." The driver explained.

"Anyway, we're here."

I looked around my heart racing, while I was still waking up.

"Ah uh.. thank you" I replied a bit late.

"Yeah, the ride was $40" he held out his hand waiting for the cash.

"Oh yeah," I reached into my backpack and handed him the cash. Afterwards getting out and grabbing my suitcase.

I waved the guy goodbye as he left, I think he returned the gesture.

But now was the moment I dreaded. As I walked up to the door and noticed almost every detail in it. The door was an ebony color, it had 2 small windows closer to the top of the door, and-

"Hello?"

The door opened and a boy, quite a bit taller than me stood as if protecting something behind the door.

"Uh-I um.. Hi" I tried to reply coolly.

"Do you need something?" He asked a bit irritated.

Fuck. I already messed up.

"Ah uhm. Yeah.. I'm Avery.."

"Avery..?" He mumbled confused.
"Alright hold on, stay here"

"Oh uh ok?" He closed the door so I backed up a few steps.

It was getting colder out, even more so now that the sun was setting. The sunset wasn't very visible since the entire property seemed to be surrounded in trees. What a perfect place to kill someone.

No one had come back to the door in quite a while so I decided to sit on the steps leading up to the front door.

Once again I started to lose my focus and ended up in my own little world for the 4th or 5th time today. But this time I wasn't really just thinking. I was imagining. I was imagining what home was like before I said those words, if I hadn't said them, I wouldn't be out here right now in the middle of no where freezing my ass off on some random dudes porch.

But soon enough someone frantically opened the door and looked me dead in the eye.

"Who are you again?" This time, a man, maybe in his twenties opened the door. He definitely didn't seem too friendly, as his face held a distinct scowl.

He was a bit taller than the boy from before, and definitely having more of a build. His curly brown hair, only long on the top, reached just above his eyebrow. He was wearing a comfortable looking shirt with grey sweatpants. Just his looks alone made my start to drool a bit.

But I snapped out of my daze before it became weird, "oh uh I'm Avery."

His look suddenly softened before he seemed a bit panicked. "Ah yeah, uh.. sorry, you didn't arrive when your parents said you would so I kind of forgot. My bad, please, come in." He gestured for me to enter the house with a bit of hesitance.

Once I entered he closed the door and told me to stay there for a second. He left to the other room and the voices that had been coming from the other room suddenly went to a halt. I felt very uncomfortable in such a quite space, I just want to go back home.

I started chewing at my fingers again out of anxiety. Why do these people keep leaving me? How late was it anyway? Who else is here?

"Sorry about that," the man came into the room, but this time he had a smaller boy following him.

"My name is Aaron, by the way. I'm the owner of this house. This is Brendan, he's gonna show you to you're room." Aaron explained.

"Ok.." I replied. I was getting tired and a little bit loopy.

Brendon smiled at me and grabbed my free hand and dragged me up the stairs. He was about my height, maybe an inch taller. He looked like he'd play a sport like soccer or something.

"This is your room, mine is 2 doors down on the right, if you ever need anything, just knock." He smiled warm and kindly.

It was just a natural reaction to smile back at him, so I did.

"Thanks, Brendan."

"Yeah," he nodded and went back downstairs.

I walked into my room and closed the door behind me taking in the sight.
