There was a twin sized bed in the corner of the room decorated with white sheets and a black and white comforter, along with a dresser and bookshelf. Dark blue curtains hung around the window frames tied to the sides allowing for sunlight to brighten the room, decorating the space with a warm tint of colour. A little plant was tucked away in the corner of the window. Just beyond the window was a small ledge of roof overhanging the floor below it. An area poked out of the first floor creating a steep but sturdy platform to sit on. The sun was setting making it easier to notice the little particles of loose dust in the air and on the window. It was calming.
It definitely wasn't as spacious as my old room, but I didn't mind. It was cozy. And my new escape from reality.
I moved into the room until I reached the bed, setting the luggage on the grey carpet and opening it to reveal the select clothes I packed together along with my other few belongings.
Keeping my backpack on the floor, I pushed my suitcase under the bed. I didn't really feel comfortable making myself at home yet. I didn't want to accept the fact that this was my new home. At least for now.
Making myself at home here would mean willing to get comfortable with the people here. I'm not willing to do that. I don't even know how many people are here because it definitely sounded like there were many more than just 2 people here.
The sun started to set even more as it was getting much darker and the light seemed out of the atmosphere only to leave behind a cold black slate of night. I was getting ready to pull out my vape to test it out as soon as I could but before I unzipped the compartment a knock sounded at my door.
"Avery?" It was Brandon.
"Come in, it's unlocked." I mumbled quietly, he then opened the door cautiously.
"Hey," he poked his head through the door crack then slowly proceeded into the room and leaned against the closet door, "uh, Aaron wanted me to tell you the rules here."
I motioned for him to continue, not wanting to necessarily put the effort into talking.
"Not much of a talker huh? What'd you get sent here for?" He said trying to make small talk, I only glared at him, of course over doing it and making him apologize quietly as he glanced down at the ground.
"I'll just get to the point," he sighed.
Fuck. I didn't mean to be that rude.. shitty first impressions.
"The first and most important rule here is really just to use your common sense." He mumbled awkwardly avoiding eye contact now.
"Secondly, no leaving the house without telling someone, mainly Aaron." He continued on telling me all the rules of the house. There were only about 10 and they seemed like such a hassle to try and remember. So I didn't.
"Alright, that's all you really need to know for now, Aaron said you can meet the rest of us tomorrow at breakfast. Wake up call is at 9, if you don't get up.. you'll regret it. Trust me," he said innocently. Obviously not meaning any harm, I suppose he's talking about the other people.
"Do you need anything else? Or questions I guess?"
"How many people live here?"
"Oh! Not including me or Aaron, there are four boys, Reed, Lucas, Colin, and London. Aaron, Reed, and Lucas are really tall, it's a bit scary. Colin is the shortest by far, he's usually babied around here, but he's not the youngest. Actually London is the youngest, but now that your here, you've taken that spot."
"I'm the youngest?" I responded dumbly, I wasn't expecting that at all.
He laughed, "yeah! You're 16 right?"
"Actually, I'm 17. My birthday is... soon"
"Oh! Then you're by far the youngest! London just turned 18 a month ago, he was the youngest. Besides Aaron, Reed is the second oldest, he's 25."
Man this kid sure was a blabber box, as he continued on talking about the boys here and how I looked much younger than I really was, I noticed someone at the door just leaning against the wall. Most likely listening to our conversation.. or more like just Brendon talking.
"Also, beware that the walls are really thin here. So if you end up rubbing one off, don't be loud. I mean unless you want to be heard.." he laughed nervously, "it might not end up as you would've planned it to if you do."
I felt the blood rush up to my straight face as the blush plastered along my face grew redder by the second. My ears and cheeks burned with embarrassment as he just casually talked about doing something like that so openly.
"Alright, I'd better get going back to my room, be sure to wake up before 9!" He pushed himself off the doors of my closet then proceeded out of the door and into the dark hallway. The figure that was once there had disappeared as my door just hung wide open allowing me eyes to venture to the door on the opposite side of the hallway.
The door was decorated with pink glitter and rainbow stickers, even though it looked as though someone tried peeling and scraping them off. The door was badly damaged but only on the surface.
